What did you start with as your first bike?

All the messages boards seem to want to tend new riders to the Kawasaki 250R. Have you had any experiences with one?

BTW, your bike looks siiiiick.
Thanks,

My first bike was a Ninja 650R. Honestly you are going to grow out of that 250 real quick. My suggestion is the Ninja 650R or Suzuki SV650 or Yamaha FZ6R, Kawasaki zzr600 if you want new. If you go with something used go with a Honda CBR 600F4I, an older Yamaha R6, or any carburated 600 that is not jetted or any mods.

The 650's differ from 600's as the 650 are twins. You get a low end torque but not the upper power band from the 600's. The 600's are inline 4's and the new ones are quite peaky when you get into 10k-15k. They take off like rockets. Depending on your confidence level I do not recommend any new 600's other than I listed as these day they are meant for track bikes and you will get yourself hurt.

Please make sure you take a beginners riding course. It helps out quite a bit. Also, please wear your gear at a minimum of helmet, boots, gloves, riding jacket and jeans.

Thank you greatly for your advice + recommendations on bikes. I'll look at the Ninja 650R and Suzuki SV650. They seem to be pretty common.

I will most definitely take Basic Rider Course at my local community college. But before doing that, I'll get my permit and purchase the safety equipment (helmet, gloves, jacket, boots, and pants) before even considering to pick up the bike.

Thanks again for your words of wisdom.

Nice ride. Good luck with her and keep the rubber side down.

I myself had been riding since '86 and miss it. I had a 2001 GSXR1000R but had to sell it. Talk about fast.
