On the front page I see "whats hot now", happens to be none other than "Michael Jackson". There's a lot of hype right now with his passing and sure enough people will be trying to make some money off of the guys death. Curiosity got me and I clicked the link to see the auctions. Didn't think it would be this bad...
Hundreds if not thousands of the highest priced "Michael Jackson" related merchandise were domain names. For those you you who don't know, a domain name is simply a websites url, example; google.com, puff.com, yahoo.com, etc. They cost on average $8.00 for a year of use of a domain then you have to renew. Good domains are rare since they are all taken and have been for years, which is why some times you can see someone selling a premium domain name for thousands sometimes a million dollars.
Domain name selling was a big thing when the internet first came out. A lot of businesses didn't get a chance to register their companies name as a domain before someone else did. Example, someone would register Pepsi.com before the company Pepsi could register it. Obviously Pepsi wants this domain name and would pay millions for it. But those days are long over, every major business owns their domain name that matches their business name, and no new business is made without checking the availability of domain names. There's still very few good domain names out there that have no site and are still waiting to be sold.
Now, that Michael Jackson just died, people registered tons of different crappy domain names and are trying to sell them for big money. How much money you ask?
Just watching the news on television disgusted me. All these people who couldn't care less about this person pretending that they are in grief of his death just so they can get on television and get attention. I don't get why everyone has to be the center of attention. This is another reason why I don't watch reality television where its just a bunch of fake hypocritical attention hungry whores who would sell their soul for a dollar.
Trying to sell crappy domains for a lot of money = lame.
Trying to profit off of someones death = hella lame.
Trying to profit off of someones death by selling crappy domains for a ridiculous amount of money = ?
