Not sure...but that might be Donald Sutherland from Invasion of the Bodysnatchers. Post snatch at the end of the movie.

Rescue a Greyhound, we did and got one of the best dogs you can imagine. Friendly, loving, low maintenance, not a watch dog though not a mean bone in their bodies. Quite intelligent and great companions low strung dogs.

Greyhounds are great so long as you don't live in an area with stray cats/squirrels and you don't own a cat... they're sighthounds by nature... if they see a cat or squirrel take off across a yard, they're GONE, and no amount of whistling or yelling is gonna stop it... Unfortunately they can get *so* tunnelvisioned in on their target that they don't look both ways before running across the street.. happened to my ex's greyhound. Great dogs, but be sure you have a STURDY fence if you want one.

I figured it was something like that. Looked familiar for some reason, just couldn't place it.

I agree, Donald Sutherland from Invasion. Good movie, like the original a little better.

I am fond of the Siberian Husky personally. But my Mother and Step-Father just bought a Bernese mountain dog recently and it is truly a great dog. Here is the Bernese mountain dog.

and here is the Siberian Husky.

Re: lance needs a dog.....but what breed?

We owned a Siberian Husky and you want to talk about high strung and hardheaded, wow they are mucho both.

I agree the Greyhounds will chase cats or rabbits but ours would not venture close to our invisible fencing and therefore it was not a problem after it was installed.

Re: lance needs a dog.....but what breed?

The thing I am most concerned with is if the dog gets sick. I can afford to adopt a dog, I can afford to feed it, and basic shots and vet visits, but it is the medical needs that you cant prepare for that worry me. I would hate to have to put it down because I couldnt afford a procedure.

I have been considering pet insurance. Something I need to do more research on.

It's about $30 a month. It doesn't cover congenital defects. For a bulldog, most health problems they have would be considered congenital, which is why we decided against it. It also has limitations, like they only pay something like $75 for neutering, whereas where we had Dugan neutered it was like $350. We ultimately decided it wasn't worth it, but it might be worth it for a different breed.

what if its a mutt? How does the congenital defects factor in then. Also, I think most places I would adopt from include the dog being fixed in the adoption price

you'll probably have to call them. but even then you might not get a straight answer. when we asked for a list of things not covered they said to look it up as defined in some text book, and said they couldn't tell us what the list was.

as far as finding a dog, there's this site, if you haven't already discovered it:

Re: lance needs a dog.....but what breed?

I'd say go with a Dogue De Bourdeaux or French Mastiff. Great dogs, very friendly demeanor. I had mine for 7 years before losing him to cancer. If you are familiar to the movie "Turner and Hooch," thats the dog.

Good luck in your dog hunt Lance!!

They are cool. Quite big and big $$$ to buy too. 7 cup dogs, or maybe more. In the big dog category I really love Great Danes, very gentle, don't need too much exercise, yet intimidating to those the dog does not know.

I want a dog too, but may go for a Bassett Hound, or Bloodhound if I can get a fenced yard.
