Re: What's Your Favorite American Muscle Car ?
I know isn’t that great? It is hilarious. They have one of the worse reliability rating but one of the highest customer satisfaction rating. How does that work? See it isn't just reliability, it is design. There is no American SUV that competes with the design of the Rover. And even the articles you read talking about reliability issues will still say they are the best to drive, you feel like royalty, off road they are unmatched...
In my original reply I stated Rover not so much for its reliability but because it is a Rover... As for MB. Not a huge fan. Will take it over American but BMW is much better. I have owned an American car. A J*@p Grand Cherokee. That thing brand new would have qualified for "Cash for Clunkers" ![]() Quote:

Re: What's Your Favorite American Muscle Car ?
Funny but Land Rover made me appreciate something American, the Harley Davidson. I always wondered why something so unreliable was so popular. My dad always had the joke "why do HD riders always drive trucks?" "To carry the spare parts" Anytime my friends and I would ride our Japanese crotch rockets to the canyons it would never fail. Broken down HD on the side of the road. After owning the Land Rover and hanging out with the people who used them for what they were made for OFF ROAD, I understood why HD riders put themselves though it. It's all about character of the vehicle and the social aspect. Same thing with smoking cigars. Even though I am not a fan of the Jeep I appreciate the social aspect of it as well.
I do appreciate people who appreciate what they drive. I don’t believe a “car is just a car.” Even if it is American. There is the history of it, the way you feel when you drive it, and does it make you feel good just to look at as you walk up to it. Do you turn your head as you are walking away from it to get “one more look?” If you do, then it doesn’t matter what you drive. |

Re: What's Your Favorite American Muscle Car ?
This is not American Muscle but I would take this car over those any day. This is my Grandfathers 1931 Model A Ford. He taught me to drive this car when I was 14 on back country roads. The car has the original engine, tranny, axles, everything is pretty much original on the car. Learning to drive with him was probably one of the best times of my life.

My favorite muscle cars: GM A-Bodies, 1964-72
This includes such notable muscle cars as the GTO, Chevelle SS, Olds 442, Buick GS (Gran Sport), El Camino SS, and 69-72 Monte Carlo SS and Pontiac Grand Prix Hurst/SSJ. I also like old AMC muscle like the AMX/Javelin and the Rebel. |

Aren't the Rovers made by Ford?

Re: What's Your Favorite American Muscle Car ?
No. Ford sold off Land Rover at the same time it unloaded Jaguar, early last year. They also got rid of Aston Martin. Of the brands they acquired over the last few years, the only one they've kept is Volvo.
I'm glad to see someone mention the GT40. that car was designed purely for revenge against old man Enzo, and it was quite effective. The car set every record that could ve set at LeMans in 1966, and had an amazing 1-2-3 finish. Seems like Ford always puts out their best stuff when they're pissed off. It also seems like Ford has to play by stricter rules. Remember the 427 SOHC? the engine was banned by NASCAR before it was ever even entered in a race. Remember when the Taurus was dominating NASCAR? Yeah, NASCAR shaved an eighth of an inch off the spoiler on every Ford, then made them reduce the angle on the spoiler, and then made them take even more material off. But yeah, favorite American muscle car has to be the GT40. if you forced me to choose one that isn't actually a full blown race car, I'll take a Ford GT.

Re: What's Your Favorite American Muscle Car ?
I'll take my old 1996 Firebird back please. I loved that car and sold it, and now regret it. I like the new Camaro, but man, I can't afford the rubber for that car. Thats a big drawback with how I drive.

Re: What's Your Favorite American Muscle Car ?
Yea Ford sold it to Tata motors in India. (At least it's getting closer to being British owned) They ran BMW motors from about 03 to 05 then went with the Jag 4.4 motor in 06. You really have to drive one to see what they are like. They ride like a car. Solid as any BMW in the turns due to the active stabilization. Off road they do some amazing things on stock tires. On the Navigation screen you can switch it to show all four axels. It will even show you which way the front wheels are aiming (useless for most people but does come in handy when off round and doing slow maneuvering) and will light up the axels/wheels as they lock up when they start to slip off road.
Yea the car isn't a Toyota when it comes to reliably but it makes up for that in the drive. Plus they are easy to work on should you break something on the trail.. |

Re: What's Your Favorite American Muscle Car ?
I gotta go with my first car when I was 17 ... 1967 Mustang 2-door coupe. 289 c.i.d., w/three speed on the floor.
