Just a memory from south east asia

When Uncle Sam first sent me overseas as a young man, I was pretty straight laced, and had never drunk anything alcoholic or smoked anything. I was 17 years old.
Now in the military, it seemed back then, every vice possible was being utilized.
I remember having my first (cigar type smoke)
The more veteran soldiers would buy kilos (and I am not advocating anything, but just some memories I have), of native marijuana. They would take whole giant handfulls(seed and twigs and everything), and make them into cigars, using usually stars and stripes newspaper. Whole sheets of newspaper.
They were huge round grotesque cylinders which would be lit up and smoked, with seeds popping all over the place like a 4th of july firecracker, and twigs catching on fire. It was almost like a torch.
I guess that was my first cigar. These are some things you will never see on television.
Or an 18 year old with his guts shot out, asking for him mommy to take him home.
It was some weird times my friends.
I dont know why these thoughts just popped up, but thought I would share them.
