Sad But True

Can you imagine working for a company
that has a little more than 500 employees and has
the following statistics:
* 29 have been accused of spousal abuse
* 7 have been arrested for fraud
* 19 have been accused of writing bad checks
* 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at
least 2 businesses
* 3 have done time for assault
* 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
* 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
* 8 have been arrested for shoplifting
* 21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
* 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the
last year...

Can you guess which organization this is?

Give up yet?

It's the 535 members of the United States Congress.
The same group that crank out hundreds of new laws each year
designed to keep the rest of us in line.

Re: Sad But True

You know Gary, I was just telling my wife that I don't have much experience professionally in many things other than Finance but after reading this, I can be a Congressman hands down. I meet at least 3-5 of these criteria (not really, but maybe 1). Unreal!

I find it hard to believe that 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year...this seems very high...

Thanks for posting this. Can you post a link to the statistics, if I'm going to start quoting it I like to know where it came from.

It is high,,,,while this number may or may not be accurate the number is relative to how many incidents have happened where the members are using immunity for DUI's because they said they were in route to Washington for a vote. Seems that there is a provision for this and we think there aren't enough crazy laws on the books? When I went to look up DUI's on congressional members it was a real treasure trove of reading about the elected officials who are voted in to represent us.

Re: Sad But True

The really sad thing is these are the people we keep voting into office year after year. It's easy to b**** about their many failures, but if we (as US citizens) don't do anything about it there is really no point. (Not accusing anyone here, I do the same thing) Using the company analogy, imagine these were your co-workers, or better yet, the corporate office... wouldn't you do everything in your power to hold them accountable for their actions?

You are correct. I say this all the time because we have access to information around the clock as far as if we want to become involved in our own government. The apathy from our own citizens towards their own government is at an all time high and we let these clowns in every year knowing full well they are cheating us but we do nothing. I have some really serious doubts about how our nation will progress in the next few years and by the time we get the message it might be too late.

Re: Sad But True

...and it no longer matters what party they belong to (it hasn't for quite some time). Once they get into office, it seems the only things our "representatives" are interested in, are wresting control and self-determination from the hands of the population, and lining their own pockets with our money. The sad (and infuriating) thing is, there's a segment of the population that is overjoyed at the thought of a "nanny" govt. holding their hands at every step and telling them what they can and can't do. Whatever happened to the concept of, and pride in individual liberty???

We can bat this ball around for a long time,,,the message was about how many members of Congress lie cheat and steal in regards to the overall percentage of people we send there. The focus should be on how many scoundrels there are in government not what the exact number is and for us as a voting public to be aware of this number. We're seeing about 50% of these clowns in some real trouble here and they are supposed to be working for us instead of lining their own pockets with money, deals, book deals, etc etc. I'm sure there are a few good men in Congress,,,I just don't happen to know any of them who put their constituents first. The art of politics is about compromise over issues and not what is necessarily right or wrong.
