Thieves really do deserve to lose a hand.

As some of you may remember I used to have the "I Shoot People For a Living" avatar because, well, its true. Some time ago however my car was broken into and I had several thousand dollars worth of photography equipment stolen. Today I get a call informing me that my insurance won't be covering a penny of it.

The photography business was half of my living money and all of my spending money, so I'll have to take these last seven cigars I have left in my humidor and really appriciate them, seeing as how once my humidor is empty I don't see it being refilled any time soon...

Does anyone have FML-esque stories to share? Misery loves company =D

(PS, 10 internet points to whoever can explain to me)

Re: Thieves really do deserve to lose a hand.

I feel your pain. When I was 16 and had my first car I had a very nice CD walkman i shooked into the tape deck. I didn't have the money for a cd deck as aftermarket were new relatively new on the scene. I paid something like 100-120 bucks for it. Well I made a pit stop at a mom and pop coutry store to grab a gatorade after practice, left the windows down. I was away from the car maybe 50 seconds. Someone snag the cd player from the car. I was devasted.

Granted it wa not worth the same as you equipment, the principle is similar. off with their hands.

Re: Thieves really do deserve to lose a hand.

In college I was moving into my dorm room. I propped open the door to make it easier to get in and out of my room while carrying my junk. Why I even took this with me to college, I'll never forgive myself, but during a trip from the room to my car, someone went into my room, and stole 4 of my fathers zippos from back in his navy days (including the nice button playboy one from like the first or second year). They also stole my 4 handed down pipes from the 40's and 50's that were my grandfather's.
I was heartbroken.
Of course they stole everything else that I had in my tobacco case. I am guessing they just wanted the lighters and cigarettes, but got the priceless stuff too.

Try this one.

I was in the shower and somehow someone got into my room without making much noise and took a whole ton of my personals and belongings... I'm pretty certain that if I hadn't closed the door and gotten out of the shower at the time I had, my laptop and computer would have been next.

Just a thought on your stuff, have you checked your homeowners ins? Sometimes depending on the policy and where your car was parked, they might cover some stuff for you.
Just a thought.

Yeah, it was my renters insurance that denied me, car insurance doesn't cover anything stolen, just the damage to the car.

Thanks for the stories though, made me feel a little better =D

Re: Thieves really do deserve to lose a hand.

Well you can also look at it this way: maybe they needed it more than you. I know it's a very long shot-in-the-dark, but hey, if they needed it that bad to steal, they probably had a good reason. And God (or whoever) will give them what they deserve.

Back in my hay-day (which is a story for another time...) I had 1600 dollars stolen from me by some kid at school. Last I heard about him he was hooked on crack. I guess he needed that money more than I did, because I'm sitting at my fancy-shmancy computer, on a forum regarding luxury items, feeling fine and content that I know where my next meal is coming from. And oh yeah, I'm also not out on the street smoking crack and doing unspeakable things to get my fix.

=D Funny, that karma thing... This too shall pass my friend.

Re: Thieves really do deserve to lose a hand.

I once (long ago) had my girlfriend stolen. It's funny that people can go to jail for stealing meaningless stuff, but they can't get arrested for stealing your girl. Oh well i hope he was as miserable as i was with that crazy B$%ch.

Try 7,600, and while it might have been my fault for believing him, it was definitely his fault for coming up with such believing lies, and faking being my friend in a "rut" so to speak.

Ouch B. Ouch. Some friend huh... Just goes to show what I've been told (and have subsequently learned over the years from being burnt by too many a-holes), never give someone anything you wouldn't throw away... 7,600 is a SHIT TON of money though.

Had a kid steal my Sony Dicsman in highschool, He went to jail 2 years later for robbing a 7-11. But hey, it wasn't his fault. He grew up in a disadvantaged home.
