Re: Epic Fail
Walked into the plumbing store with the old hose and the new hose, explained the problem, and $5.37 and less than five minutes later, walked out the door with the exact part I needed. A pox on Home Depot, and their children's children. The dishwasher is hooked up, and running right now. It's still a temporary install, though. I still need to cut the lip off the counter, but that means pulling it all back out again. I just wanted to make sure worked and there were no leaks. So far, so good. I am, for now at least, happy. Even without the insulation jacket, this is so, so much quieter than the old one. It also has the 2-4-6 hour delay thingie, so I can run it in the middle of the night when I'm asleep, but they almost all have that now. AND it has the deep tub, and no center sprayer tower, so I can wash my smoker pans without taking the top rack out. I may have to have a cigar to celebrate!

Re: Epic Fail
Whenever I start to think I'm really smart, reality jumps up and pimp-slaps me off my pedestal.
I've been using the new dishwasher for a few days now. Like just about all new appliances, this is one of those energy-saver models. They did this, apparently, by partially disabling one of the functions that I, at least, consider to be a sort of fundamental part of dishwasher-y-ness: It doesn't dry the dishes. See, I'm so dumb, I never, ever would have thought of that! Must be why I'm not a big-time Kenmore appliance engineer. Since I've been in the tech support for almost 20 years, the first time it happened I just assumed it was "operator error". Since then, though, I have been very careful to make sure the "heated dry" option is turned on, but it keeps doing the same thing. It does partially dry the dishes, but it does a pretty half-assed job of it. On a related note, I've also found a way to make the gas in my truck last a lot longer by leaving it parked in the driveway.
