You get what you pay for!

I always tell the customers in the furniture store I work at "Sure, you can buy cheaper elsewhere but you get what you pay for"

Naturally I don't heed my own advice. I needed a portable compressor for a project. Found a nice one for $189 but as I was checking out they had a promotional Husky unit for $79 that was rated stronger. Naturally I thought about saving $100 so bought it.

I got home, opened the undamaged box and found this:

Brought it back and got my first choice. Lesson learned

Re: You get what you pay for!

I dont believe you always get what you pay for. A lot of the time you do, but I research everything to exhaustion using various means before I purchase.

Given a choice, and if I can afford it, I will always buy industrial quality. Whether it be a paper shredder, a waffle iron, vacuum cleaner, pair of boots.

But a lot of time an expensivce item is juas an expensive piece of junk. So do your research.

Re: You get what you pay for!

Just an example. In the military time needs to be very precise sometimes. I had acquired watches that were much dinero, and unsatisfied with.

The best darn watches that we used and kept great time, and kept of ticking are the series of timex ironman series and type of watches. Less then 40 dollars.
The battery lasts for a few year, night light is blued, and keeps time like a champ.
The only modification we make is to change the band out to an oversized covered military type wrist strap.

Also the tritium watches from luminox(certain series) are superb(less then 400 dollars) and keep great time, impervious to the elements, you can see the time underwater in black on night, but are not quite as reliable as the timex. You never have to take the lumiinox off.

I had a nato field officer model, and I think I only took it off once in five years to have a new battery and bezel put in. Love that watch, but gave out and broke after about 10 years of hard use.

Try that with a 10,000 rolex.

Just by the way, if you like the rolex brand, you can get geniune rolexx brand watches in times square for less then 50 bucks. I tell you its a steal.

Ditto,,,its all about knowing what you are paying for that is the smart move. I have paid out plenty of money for things that were expensive and learned that they weren't any better than the item that was sometimes half the price. It pays to investigate what the product is, how good it compares to those items of same, their warranty and how much you will actually use the product.

Re: You get what you pay for!

This is the one I ended up with. A little more than $79 but I like it.

I do research for value and quality. Just was surprised that it had broken without any damage to the box. Must have been that way at factory.

I always laugh at my friends that have to have the most expensive thing. I normally get better quality for a whole lot less. Not too worried about the name on it normally.

Re: You get what you pay for!

I may be one of the few people who actually appreciates cheap, disposable crap. Seriously. Pens and pencils, nail clippers, Bic lighters, stuff like that. It fascinates me that some company somewhere (China) can crank these things out by the millions or even billions, and almost give them away.

Boots, shoes and tools are exceptions that leap to mind. Skimp and you'll regret it. I recently bought a new pair of tennis shoes. The second I slipped them on in the store, I realized how crappy my cheap, old ones were. For three years I had thought my feet were messed up.
