CS cooking crew....if there is one...

Has anyone ever made crab legs at home? A local place has them for $5/lb. What is a good way to cook them? I've been told not to place them in the water directly but rather just above it and steam them. Should I add rock salt or anything to the water?

Try this:

http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/fi...exclude_other=

I like them steamed with some spices added to the water or creating a broth which you baste the legs in over a 3-4 hour period of time.

Thanks for the link. I heard that if the legs are red they are ready.. The legs I'm getting are already red....so do I just need to warm them up or what?

They may already be cooked. You are making me hungry! I am headed to the beach in a few weeks. I can't wait to get a hold of some fresh crab.

I love crab legs and I'm sick of paying red lobster prices. If I can figure out how to cook them, I've just saved myself a ton of money

You cannot screw them up. Trust me. Just plain steaming them makes a great meal. Enjoy.

I'm worried about them coming out tough or tasteless.

Virtually all King crab legs are sold pre-cooked, you just need to re-heat them. Gentle steaming is great, splitting, buttering and heating under a broiler is even better!

Re: CS cooking crew....if there is one...

Like Raisin said - the odds of you buying legs already cooked is near 100%. I'm not a big crab leg eater - but my wife is. She does a variety of things: steam them, put them in the oven for a few minutes, broil them, microwave between wet paper towels and even just eat them cold. Use melted butter, cocktail sauce, Old Bay seasoning, etc.
If your buying them from a local supermarket - just ask them. Most of them will prepare them for you. Our local Giant Store will cook shrimp, lobsters, etc at no charge while you shop or wait.
You really can't mess them up - and if you do - hey, it's your first time.

Just gently steam them until they are heated through. Don't try to do too much with seasoning, keep it simple. Enjoy!

I'm thinking of just adding a little salt to the water

They are pre-cooked. They are not King........most likely Snow crab. Glad they turned out well.
