Phoenix Haboob'd

For those of you who wonder what it's like to live in the desert, here's a news story with video of a wall of dust that passed through Phoenix Metro on June 7th. Called a Haboob, it's an amazing sight to see and one we experience several times during the summer monsoons.

Re: Phoenix Haboob'd

Been there done that out side of Lubbock Texas. It is freaky for sure.

We had new neighbors move in next door from Colorado. See the storm coming in one day and I told them then might want to take the laundry off the line they were hanging. The said why, looks like a real nice Sunset.

Lets just say they tended to listen to a 10 year old a bit more after that

I was driving right into that on rt 60 Tuesday after work. It was something else to see. I haven't seen one like that in about 10 years here in the valley. One time a few years ago it rained with that in the air. People were walking into the store covered with spots of mud.

That's why I live in San Diego now. Well, one of the reasons.

Yeppers. In West Texas ya do not see a lot of rust on cars, but your going to see some really messed up paint.

Re: Phoenix Haboob'd

One of my most vivid memories of living in Phoenix. We were out riding bikes (I was 10), and seeing a Haboob coming at us. We basically had to just pull over and close our eyes. Nothing like sand blasting to open the pores.
