hmmm...yeah...good point


but yeah, i saw something like this on msnbc, or one of those channels. they want a law passed that would prohibit all foreign languages on signs, such as restaurants and retail stores. the guy fighting the law said that it's fine if it passes, as long as the government uses tax dollars to provide free classes for immigrants so they can learn english.

That's English they speak in downtown Phillie? Who knew?

Was just there a few weeks ago and what a beautiful night time environment. So many great places in a 3-4 block area... surrounded by places you don't want to wander off into regardless of your native tongue.

Were you down by the bus station? I was stuck there for about 8 hours once,saw a cop almost bust a guy in the skull for cutting in line at the ticket counter.Nice.

It's really about demonstrating an attitude of sincere effort.

I've been to Italy and France where I don't speak the language. I had a pocket phrase guide and invariably when people saw I was trying to bridge the gap to THEIR way, they reached back way more than half way to help me.

He also made some other points as well. Said they are very busy and people not speaking english held the line up and slowed things down. He said english or not if he does not understand what your saying your getting wizz and onions and just deal with it. If you find you do not like wizz or onions then learn english so you do not have to eat it.

He is dang sure getting some press over all this.
