CD/DVD Burning Software
Any of you guys have an opinion on the 'best of breed' for this category of utility? I've used Roxio in the past, but a lot of guys like Nero. I need basic burning, 'InCD' support (packet driver) and some light DVD MPEG authoring so I can burn the TV programs I record to my drive onto disk, while editing out the commercials.
Please comment on why you voted as you did. Curious to hear your thoughts.

Re: CD/DVD Burning Software
There are lots of different choices floating around out there besides these two, but I settled on Nero a few releases ago, mainly because Roxio/Adaptec wanted to take over my whole system, a la Norton products. Nero is not as lean and mean as it used to be, but it is still a far cry from Roxio.

Re: CD/DVD Burning Software
Id always go nero, its just easy, and it alows you to create DVD's very very easily. Should be easy to find to download for free, otherwise give me a shout and i will send you a copy.

Re: CD/DVD Burning Software
For audio CD's I like to use iTunes just because it's so easy. For everything else I use Nero.

Re: CD/DVD Burning Software
Nero has been driving me nuts as of late. It used to be free of alot of crap and extras. Now it is getting way too bulky. But, I still use Nero.

Re: CD/DVD Burning Software
Wow! I can't believe the landslide. So far, it's 12:2 for Nero.
I've owned Roxio for some time, but it had a few shortcomings in MediaCreator 5 in terms of features. Now that they're on version 7, I thought I might upgrade, but don't want to do so without trying it out first and they don't have a demo. What is it, specifically, that got you guys going with Nero? Was it because it was less expensive than Roxio/Adaptec? Did you get it with a drive? What KEEPS you using Nero? In other words, WHY do you like Nero more than Roxio? Speed? Ease of use? Reliability? Features? Just trying to make an intelligent decision. Thanks to all!

Re: CD/DVD Burning Software
I didn't vote, 'cause I'm a Mac guy and don't really use either. I have the super-whiz-bang-toast-adamantium thing and used to use it for everything. Now I use iTunes when burning audio, the Mac OS when doing data and media files other than music or DVD, and Mac the Ripper and toast only when doing DVDs.
That probably doesn't help at all. I was just feeling chatty.

Re: CD/DVD Burning Software
All the music I burn is MP3, so I just drag directly to the disk. Mush easier.

Re: CD/DVD Burning Software
I Just loadad ubuntu linux on this PIII650 Portege I picked up. I have an external CD burner and there seems to be a burning program on this Linux version .. I'll have to find it though.
Running firefox here .... only problem so far is my older wireless Orinoco silver card won't support the encryption that I have on my network at home .. at work its fine since the University has absolutely no security in the wireless networks other than PW protection. I hate Roxio with a passion. I have tried Nero and hate that too. Running Windoze I use an older version of Roxio that isn't as piled up with shit as the latest versions (have the update file on CD which also has to be loaded for it to work). |
