That's why you register for wedding gifts, so you can get everything you need for the house/apartment.

Oh, believe me, there will be plenty of items on our registry! Just need to get rugs and ceiling fans and that's all we need for now. Oh, and to the topic poster, I was with my fiancee for about 6 years before I popped the question recently, so I can totally understand your position. If you need any advice on the ring part of it, let me know! I'm sure you guys will have a very happy life together! Good luck man!

Re: Ring Shopping

I didnt mean it to sound strange. I just ment if you can afford it go for it. But if you cant step back and think.

At the time I could afford it, now I cant buy a free lunch.

My advice is to look at rings you like then contact the jeweller directly, if they are a small independent jeweller exhibitng in a gellery/shop then quite often the shop will be asking 50% commision on that ring, if you contact the maker directly and ask him/her to make you one and you offer them cash, then you quite often will be able to get it for just over half the pirce you saw it in a shop for, with the money you would be saving you could buy a much more expensive ring!

I have done this myself, my (ex) gf wanted a pair of earring she saw in a gallery, unfortuantely these were beyond my skills so i could not make them for her so i contacted the designer myself, the earring were £100 in the gallery, i knew commision was 50% so i offered the designer £70 cash, she was more than happy and i got them personalized too!!

hope this helps

Always happy to help, id offer to make you a ring but my main medium is silver rather than gold or platinum so its not really suitable for an engagement ring, another thing i would suggest is to buy your diamonds and then have them set for you, diamonds are surpisingly cheap to buy, the markup on them in shops is just ridiculous.

let me know how you get on, a little research and a few telephone calls could save you a hell of a lot of money!!
