I have seen the US flag patch displayed like that many times on a uniform. Any military people know the meaning of this? Only explaination I can figure is that the field of stars always faces the front?

As an amateur photographer, I can tell you the shading on the upper right corner of the flag is wrong in proportion to where the sun is on the soldiers back. The sun is more on the horiaon than a midday sun.

I can only say when I was in the Army you werent' free to add your own patches, emblems, sayings, phrases, other countries flags, etc to your uniform. Maybe things changed, but I doubt it.

When worn in this manner, the flag is facing to the observer’s right, and gives the effect of the flag flying in the breeze as the wearer moves forward. BINGO. Tri has it right. If you keep an eye out on Marine 1 you will see the same thing with the flags on it.

as evidence by this photo here, which is in fact, REAL.

i'll post another in a second of a real photo with a patch that's not suppose to be there... but quite funny if you're military or ex-military.

Agreed - it is correct. It's been almost 25 years since I left the Army, and things change - but - wonder why the patch isn't subdued?
