Re: tire brands for sports car?

If you have it spend it. My company puts about 250 tires on the road 5 days a week.We learned long ago not to be cheap with tires. If you drive a BMW,good performance tires are a must. Go with known brand names...

Bridgestone! You should get on Bimmerforums.com and research what everyone there is doing for similar cars. I put Bridgstone on everything: performance tires for the S2000, good all season/sporty tires for my wife's Tc, and All terrains for the Bronco. Make sure you check out the reviews and survey results for specific tires, too. Not everything Bridgestone makes is great. Also, the sales reps at Tirerack can be very knowledgable about specific vehicles.

Does "Extreme Performance Summer" vs "Max Performance Summer" make a difference?
Are the top-end ones softer to get better grip and thus don't last as long?

Most likely, yes. You can check out the survey results and get a rating on tread wear for each specific tire. I assume you have an M3? What year?

Re: tire brands for sports car?

I've always had good luck with Michelin and BFG.

At the track, we used MT's.

Bridgestone is the what I prefer too. If you want all out performance with mind boggling wet weather traction, the Potenza S03 is hard to beat. They are not expensive either. Keep in mind the operating temperature range you will use the tires in. If you plan a lot of frozen tarmac or snow, the S03 may not be the best choice, but Bridgestone should be a first choice in general.

Michelin's PS 2's are good, if you want something less expensive; Toyo Proxies TS1 (I think that's the model), or Khumo's.

Bridgestone - It's good enough for Ferrari's default tire.

Re: tire brands for sports car?

Ok, the tires I would consider for this car are: (in no particular order)

1.Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07
2.Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Pole Position
3.Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 ( I had these tires on the S, and loved 'em. They are unsurpassed in the rain. They didn't last long though)
4.Michelin Pilot Sport PS2

Nice.
Just got my wife the 330CI.
Came close to getting the M but figured I would kill myself with it for sure.
I fear the day I will need new tires, specially since the back and front are different and can't rotate the four as usual.

I have always been a fan of Michelin but they are costly.
Being in the Chicago area, you need performance but tracktion also.

Re: tire brands for sports car?

P-Zero Neros have been a good cost/performance tire for me and my S4.

I just put on a set of Bridgestone RE750's for the S.....The verdict is still out. Not sure what I think of 'em yet.

Cool! My wife used to have a 3 series but it was fairly basic - I used to hate it for being a BMW but not being faster than it was
