Cigar breath

Is there a cure? If there is, what do you do to get rid of it? I did a search and didn't find anything on this topic.

Re: Cigar breath

Why would you want to cure it? It's one of my favorite parts. Personally, I love tasting my cigars the next morning--the gift that keeps on giving

Re: Cigar breath

After a good Padron, why would you want to get rid of that delicious lingering flavor?? But if you must, I recommend a Fuente.

I also love the lingering taste in my mouth of a good cigar, and the aroma of the smoke on my clothes. The aroma is one of the best parts. But, with a bad cigar, that is another story....

Re: Cigar breath

If your partner objects to the breath as my wife does, I end up brushing, then rinsing with a good mouthwash. I've been using Targon which is touted as being ideal for smokers breath. Using a tongue cleaner helps remove the cigar tastes from your tongue. Others have mentioned the citrus rinse, I've also heard rinsing with salt water helps. Sometimes, it's not even your breath, but your clothes or even your hair. Wearing a old jacket that you can use as a smoking jacket would help.

Of course, there are some with breath that would peel paint and nothing would help..

Shower, floss, brush, rinse, and change my clothes.

In a pinch, I've found that ginger flavored altoids help a bit.

Get her to smoke with you and she'll never notice.

Re: Cigar breath

Tell you what I do if I want or need to get rid of cigar breath...which is unusual.

I take a fresh lemon or lime, have found that lemons work better. I quarter it and then put some sugar on it, suck on the wedge for a couple of minutes and kinda swish the acid around in your mouth. Then I brush. Gets rid of most of the taste.

Well I suck at searching. lol. Sry for the repost then. Thanks for the info. I don't hate the taste I just don't like the breath and my gf hates the idea of me smoking so trying to cover it up is a hard thing to do when it takes about a day or so for cigar breath to go away naturally.

Wire brush skin, steel wool then a fine grit sandpaper... when your skin looks like Freddy Krueger's, you won't smell like cigars. And if you do, that'll be the least of your concerns.

Re: Cigar breath

Here is something I foind interesting.

Los Angeles, September 13 – “The odor can range from a musty smell to something akin to burning yard waste.”

Ouch!

That characterization of “cigar breath” from reporter Sophie Rovner in Chemical & Engineering News was the background for a report on a presentation made by chemists from the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company – makers of Altoids, LifeSavers and Big Red, Doublemint and Juicy Fruit gum among many other products – that they had identified the primary elements that cause unpleasant breath among cigar smokers.

Russell A. Bazemore, a cigar smoker himself, made the presentation to the Division of Agricultural Food & Chemistry during the recent national meeting of the American Chemical Society in San Francisco.

He told Rovner that the research project revealed the primary culprits as chemicals identified as nitrogen heterocycles including “2-ethylpyrrole, 2,3-dimethylpyrazine and 2-ethylpyridine.” Huh?

According to the article, “Each of these compounds contributes a distinctive note to cigar breath. 2-Ethylpyrrole, for example, smells musty. The pyrazines have a savory odor reminiscent of cooked meat, bread and coffee. Pyridines combine a nutty aroma with a smell that can only be described as a ‘stench,’ Bazemore said.

“‘It made a lot of sense that we would see these pyrroles, pyridines, and pyrazines in such abundance,’ Bazemore said. These compounds are produced both by combustion of the cigar and by the Maillard reaction, which turns tobacco leaves brown when they are dried and fermented during cigar manufacture. Both processes generate the pyrolysis compounds from reducing sugars and amino acids present in the leaves. . . .

“Now we know what the most offending compounds are, so ideally we will be able to research a solution that will lessen their impact on breath. At Wrigley, we’re trying to use good science to uncover some of these long-standing mysteries. We’re confident that these lingering after-aromas that we’re all accustomed to are a problem that can be resolved.”

Coming up: Wrigley’s Cigarmint gum? In regular and sugarless?
