While I am well known for the position "if you don't want to read it, don't click the thread"; the amount of pointless threads is now affecting the way many people read and access Club Stogie. It needs to stop.

I am free with +RG and pretty much reach my maximum allowed to give every day; so I have no reservations about going on a ding rampage.. I am going to start dinging RG to people who are making posts simply for the credits.

Aye captain!

It's no longer something that is mildly painful because someone decided to post some inane crap, its become a massive rectal pain because a real thread that was posted in 10 minutes ago is now buried on page 8 of mindless bullshit.

It is very difficult, in my eyes at least, to go from someone who posts a crapload of horseshit just for the sake of posting to someone who is well respected here. You could, in time, become the backdoor lover of Min Ron Nee himself, but you will always be seen as the guy that posted 6000 pages of BS. Don't ruin your reputation or make people think of you as a toddler in a candy store...it ain't worth it. I'm sure you are all wonderful people, but CS was a success, is a success, and will continue to be a success without the pleasure of your oral (digital?) diarrhea. Stick to the cigars, coffee, information, ball busting, and good natured (and sometimes bad) BSing that has made CS so great....not moronic posting about nothing.

Really irritating if you ask me. Bush league stuff. Paul has been (uh, let me quote) "around long enough" to get his posts (and his post-whoring) in the right forums. What's that all about, Paul? Huh? Huh? Huh? You got pipe tobacco in your eyes, Paul?

Yer oughta pa-ding his fanny and edit a few of HIS posts while yer at it.

Yee ha. Git down!

Re: Was credits the right thing?

I think the massive spurt of post whoring will quiet down once all the noobs get over the jollies they get from credits, or whatever they are called now. Plus, we can just f*k up the post whorers and run their sorry butt off the forum.

Re: Was credits the right thing?

I would like to weigh in as a noob. Now I can not say that I am never guilty of a little whoring it up, but usually it is for the sake of a one liner or some comedy relief. I stay away from the simple as much as possible. If something I was going to say in a thread has been covered by someone else and I have no new input to add, I refrain from posting.

Were the credits necessary? Probably not, seeing as how most of us were here for things other than playing arcade games. I feel bad that I now have to overanalyze my posts in order to stay out of the post whoring noobie category. I like to have fun on here as much as talk cigars, so I enjoy some of the stupid EBC threads. Alphabites for instance is always fun to catch up on. But last night when I logged on after having been offline for about 5 hours, there were 11 new pages of threads and posts for me to sift through. I sure hope it changes as the newness wears off.

I thought maybe I was just imagining it, but there are a ton more of bold, unread posts whenever I enter a forum. I don't know if they are all pointless, but it seems everyone's crawling out of the woodwork to post something or other.

It's really not as bad as what folks are making it out to be. Go over to S2KI.com where they have 50k members, and post whoring is accepted and enjoyed even. They do keep it to the appropriate forums however, and it takes nothing away from the informative posts that many there appreciate and even pay for. Hell, some members there have a 50+ PPD rating. Just keep it to the appropriate forums, and folks can keep enjoying their shameless whoring, and others can sift through the "important" stuff in peace.

It's been tried. We are like cockroaches. Will be eating CS twinkies when you are just post apocolyptic dust.

Re: Was credits the right thing?

The post whoring that is going on to build up Bux is a real drag. It shouldn't be encouraged by the members and the forum certainly should not create an atmosphere that rewards it. Filtering through all the crap to find the nugget has become a real pain in the ass.

Re: Was credits the right thing?

If we had a garbage forum that was dedicated to whoring and chatting, that would be a good place for folks to unwind without cluttering up all the other cigar related forums. I don't mean the "everything but cigars" forum either. That's a good misc. forum. Mods could move threads into the garbage forum and maybe ding or warn people that blatantly post garbage in other forums. Using S2KI.com as an example, sorry, but I'm familiar with that place too, a garbage forum could be fun, while keeping all the other forums clutter free. Just a thought. I know the mods and powers that be already do enough work to make this one of the best forums on the net.

But who shall bell the cat? There are some very important post whores at CS who would be sorely missed. It's so complicated I get a headache thinking about it. Ohhhh moan.

The whole credits thing might have been less of an issue when the membership was smaller and the usenet/forums, etc., were somewhat less well known. Nonetheless, the points thing died about when I arrived. I can't remember long maudlin epitaths to mourn the loss, whereas the return of the point has bred instant epithets.

Unlike Dave and Dave and Dave (not you - the OTHER Dave), I am not pathologically post-manic but, with points in the balance... well, what can I say? One day somebody might start offering a Clark Bar for every 1000 points. I'd be crazy not to be ready.

I think thats a great idea! Keep the BS out of EBC and the Jokes forums....and instead use the Word forum! Due to all of the server issues and the upgrade, Paul hasn't yet had the chance to put the link in, but the Word forum (or garbage as you call it) does exist. To get there: Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft Office -> Microsoft Office Word.

Once you're in, write whatever you want and post away!
