Civil War buffs

Bringing this over from the New Gorilla forum:

For any Civil War enthusiasts in the DC area, let me invite you to the Ball's Bluff battlefield, just outside of Leesburg, Virginia, for one of our tours. I'm a member of the guide group and am giving the tours this coming Saturday, October 7, at 11:00 and 2:00. Hope some of you in the area will come by and introduce yourselves.

Directions for those who need them:

Take Rt 7 toward Leesburg from points east. Head north on the 15 Bypass. Go a mile or so to Battlefield Parkway and turn right. Then take the first left onto Ball's Bluff Rd and continue through the subdivision, through the cul-de-sac, and onto the gravel road to the battlefield parking lot.

If coming from the north, come down 15, get on the bypass just above Leesburg, and turn LEFT onto Battlefield Parkway.

If you can't make it this Saturday, there are tours every Saturday and Sunday from May through October at the times noted above.

Battlefields are great places for enjoying a good seegar.

Re: Civil War buffs

If I ever make it back there, I hope I can take a month just to check out all of the battle fields.

I'm out of town this weekend - haven't been to Leesburg battlefield in years.

I have another friend who does Alexandria (Southern Fairfax) tours - has written several books mostly on Alexandria and Mosby's Raiders.

But hey - if your free Saturday night the 14th - come on by for the herf here.

Greetings, thanks for the info. I've taken that tour before with a friend of mine as guide. You wouldn't happen to know Max G by chance?

I'm a huge civil war buff! Been to appamatox, fort sumter, fort moultrie, seen the hunley twice, Fredericksburg, Bentonville, Sharpsburg, and manassas junction.

Also have about forty books on the civil war in my library. Firm believer that Joseph E. Johnston was really the south's best general!

What a great call, Scal'em! Outdoor venues for folks with mutual interest in history and cigars. Hate it doesn't fit for me with this weekend. Now I'm thinking 4th of July week, 2007, around Gettysberg. Dag - or Revolutionary herf at Yorktown, Charleston or Cowpens, etc.

If Im down in Gettysburg for an internship I would love to have a hurf, I could tour you guys around the battlefield. They also have two great cigar shops on baltimore street, the Gettysburg Cigar Co and The Union Cigar Club. The owner of GBurg Cigar Co is a friend of Carlos Fuente and has visited him down in the DR, really cool guy who knows his stuff.
