MP3 player...IPOD versus ZEN versus...what?

I'm looking into getting one, yet most have obvious drawbacks. Any of you know which has the least? I'd rather not fall into the IPOD trend but if that's what's the best, that's what I'm getting...

I personally love my Ipod mini, use it every day walking to classes and working out in the gym. Ive got the 4gb and I had about 700 songs before I accidently deleted them transfering them to my new computer. If your looking for just a basic, well made, easy to use mp3 player go with the ipod

If you dont mind spending about $13 a month for the fee then i would suggest getting a portable XM or Sirius player...not much of an Mp3 player but still cool. Can record live songs too.

I bought a Micro Zen over an IPOD because it has a voice recorder, FM tuner, and user replacable battery. The only thing an IPOD has on the Zen is the range of available accessories, which is decidedly lacking for the Zen but meets my needs.

Get the new 8gb Nano.

It should be plenty of space for music and some podcast. They are small sleek and very user friendly.

I went with the SanDisk Sansa (Newegg link) over an ipod or alternatives and couldn't be happier. I bought it because it has good music quality, is incredibly lightweight, avoids all of the crap associated with itunes, can be used as an external drive, is inexpensive, and uses a AAA battery rather than an internal rechargeable (I love not having to worry about charging batteries when I travel) .

Unfortunately, the RIAA has cut FM recording. All the Zen players will no longer have this function. I'm not sure what their doing with satellite, but thats whats up with portables. Source: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4566

Another vote for the iPod here. Actually, I've bought 3. 40gb, 20gb, and 4gb Mini. I never leave the house without it.

my dad just ordered me and my brother the Creative Vision:M with the new 60gb version...it also has a USB port on it so u can connect your camera directly to the Player itself and transfer pictures.

I recieved a free IPod in that online website that everyone thinks is spam...got it, gave it to dad...works for what he needs it for but I hate that I cannot make a playlist on it...i have to switch between songs...on my old ZEN (the one I have now) I can make a playlist of anything I want.

Creative > IPod...IMHO, and some reviewers too.

I think on the Zen you can highlight songs and then press a button and it makes a playlist without a computer.
