1983 Porsche 944 on ebay sold for £1,550.00
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1983-PORSCHE-9...QQcmdZViewItem

$4495 at a dealer in AZ
http://www.automobilemag.com/classif...113/index.html

I always caution folks when guiding themselves by recent sales or even an industry book, such as Blue Book, Nada, Red Book, etc.
The caution is car appraising (which I am very familiar with as I did it myself and managed a very large group of folks in the business) is so individual to the car in question.
That recent sale of $4,495 could be a prestine, dealer/showroom condition whereas a car with a lesser condition will be worth significantly less.

You really have to be objective and read the categories precisely as written. Don't let feelings get in the way and taint the view of the actual condition. Once you have done what we in the industry call "conditioning", you can then truly determine the value based on the guide book you are using.

To the owner, the condition is perfect, prestine. If you can effectively illustrate how the guide differs in opinion, you will save yourself some major bucks up front. If the car is truly a classic, look up some books that specialize in classics and have more realistic figures. If in classic condition, and you end up buying it, to insure it, reach out to Hagerty Insurance out of Traverse City, MI. They specialize in insuring these cars.

I always thought oversteer and brake-stabbing washes them out of the gene pool, mach schnell. ....

Re: Porsche 944 value?

Clarification time:

The 911 comment was not made in the BMW/porcupine joke way or to suggest 911 drivers are assholes. God knows most of you guys here would flog the crap out of a rented Saturn to how it can run...

What I meant was that, at least in my experience, 50% of 911 drivers don't even know what oversteer is and they rarely reach the speed limit on the freeway.

The average Joe probably wouldn't recognize the 944 as a Porsche, but everyone knows the 911. In my opinion, the 944 is 100% go, while the 911 is 110% go and 90% show.

Now that I hope I've explained myself to you 911 guys and I hope none of you were offended.....can I come over and play with your toys?

I am however looking at picking up either a '03-'04 996TT or if I can get a good deal a on a GT3 if one presents itself.

I'm in the other 50% group. I lifted on a big sweeper at about 90 and found out that its hard to drive backwards at any speed over about 5 mph. You couldn't have driven a needle up my ass with a sledge hammer for that 3 or 4 seconds!

Adam, no offense taken here either, I thought it was a funny comment.

p.s. Tell us the BMW Porcupine joke

Oh yeah, there are plenty of guys that are....and I admire the hell out of them for their driving ability. Probably the best car guy I know has several 911's and 944S's that he often races at the Glen. Funny thing is, he's also in construction...and you often see his black 911 with the amber light parked in a construction zone while they're paving. I don't even want to put my truck through that mess!

Anyway, Ive been in that situation many times myself. Not at the same speed, but way too close. Driving a 240sx (obviously much less handling response from any sort of throttle play, but hell....we're talking 8 inches of snow with "college budget/bald" tires) through snowstorms between Buffalo and Pittsburgh at 18 years old in an effort to get home to go to the bar ASAP = many near death experiences.

So, without further production....

whats the difference between a BMW and a porcupine?

With a porcupine, the prick is on the outside.

It's worth about 12 boxes of Montecristo #2's. The ISOM's not the other pices of crap. Forget the car, buy the smokes.

Right, that. One clutch replacement has to be worth a whole mess of very fine cigars.
