Re: For jazz listeners...

Dave Brubeck - Nightshift
Oscar Peterson - Oscar in Paris
Chick Corea, Cannonball Adderley, Mingus, Nat King Cole
Thelonius is not generally my favorite, but I love the album "Thelonius Himself" - it's a (maybe the only?) solo album.

Re: For jazz listeners...

My absolute favourite- as cliche as it may be in the jazz world (or is it?) is John Coltrane's Love Supreme. It not only is simply brilliant music, it also has a deep sentimental association for me as well although I just picked it up 4 months ago.

Weather Report's Mysterious Traveller (fusion)

Thelonious Monk- Criss Cross

Anyone see the Thelonius DVD? Called "Straight, No Chaser". Great documentary about his life- I need to watch it again, it's been a few years.

Have it and keep meaning to watch it.

"Piano Legends" hosted by Chick Corea (I think that's what it's called) is a pretty good DVD...

favorite Coltrane is Favorite Things. I love the way he takes that song and just twists, turns, and rips it a new one. Never heard that song sound so hot!!! Blue Train is a sax god!!!

Re: For jazz listeners...

Wow!! Fellow jazz lovers...ok...About a month ago, I just fixed up my garage and built a cigar smoking area. I pulled out my turntable and a few of my vinyls. I haven't played them for at least 15 or 20 years. Yep, listening to 'Trane, Davis and ha, ha, weather report, mysterious traveller, but then I'm also into Ella, Satchmo, Sinatra....Gotta find the rest of them...in my rented storage room....

There's something about vinyl....

I like Miles Davis at Carnegie Hall...

Oh yeah, forgot to mention Gonzalo Rubalcaba (a Cuban piano player who is amazing)!
His best album I've heard is Suite 4 y 20, followed closely by Imagine.

Re: For jazz listeners...

I love to set up my own "jazz concerts" sometimes on a rainy day where I pick an artist, and play my CD's of that person and have a nice smoke and scotch. Great way to enjoy the day.

Re: For jazz listeners...

I love John Coltrane. My favorite thing is when i am driving, either playing one of his cds or putting my XM 72 -74, pulling over and just setting back with a cigar, even if just for a few min. The world just flows away. I love it!!!

One of my favorite albums of all time: Somethin' Else with Cannonball Adderley, Miles Davis, Hank Jones, Sam Jones, and Art Blakey.
