Re: How did you pay for the engagement ring?

Im in a similar situation as you. I am having a ring made about twice my monthly pay. I make pretty good money so it is very expensive. Im not sure how I'm gonna pay for it yet. I got a personal loan for aout 70% of the ring but have to figure out the rest. I will probably put a little on the creditcard use a bonus from work and harvest some $100 dollars bills from the money tree in the back yard (NOT). I have even thout about taking a withdrawl from one of my investment accounts( BAD IDEA ). I will pay forward some advice a smart person gave to me...try to pay as much cash as you can so you don't carry that debt!!!

Re: How did you pay for the engagement ring?

I paid cash - all $400 bucks worth -
I was a PFC in the Army with no money. Wedding bands though took me two years to pay off. On our 10 year anni I did upgrade her engagement ring - paid with plastic that time. My wife requires very little to keep her happy (thank god) - but I have more than made up for what I did not spend at the start of our 30 years together in other jewelry along the way.

What he said. Don't go to a damn mall or strip mall jewelry store. Buy a 10.00 loupe and get a book on diamonds. Spend 3 hours learning what you are looking at.

The BS of spend x times your salary per month is bull.

Get a good deal, be reasonable, use common sense.

If it's true love it can wait, u2 r-not going anywhere. Take your time and do it when your ready. My 1st time was credit card(i bought for someone else) 2nd time was for me, I paid cash. Dont get yourself into futher debt and have major problems in the long run. Remember if it's true love u can right until the right time. Save up until you can afford it.

Re: How did you pay for the engagement ring?

My parents met in South Africa (Dad is Saffer, Mum is English)... my mum didn't get a ring... she choose between a ring or a flight home... Which is why I'm over here now... and certainly wasn't bred for cold weather.

On the other hand... do your best Popeye impression and propose on a waste barge with a screw-nut you found on said barge.

Re: How did you pay for the engagement ring?

You have to know your girl. My wife knew it was all about the love, so when I proposed with an $80 ring, she could not have cared less. She still has it and when she pulls it out, she still gets nostalgic. We've been together 11 years and she has never said she wished I had bought a more expensive ring.

Some girls want a big ring, even if you have to borrow.

Actually, Costco isn't a bad place to get a quality diamond.
I look at what they have and occasionally find one very close to my wifes for only about 20% more than I paid. Still a very good deal.
You can also order diamonds from them, You can tell them what you want to spend, and they will hook you up and send you one, bizarre, but they guarantee your satisfaction and you get a GIA or equivalent certification and valuation.
