Re: How did you pay for the engagement ring?

Once you get married you never stop paying.

You will get the ring paid off and then it will be something else.

You will be paying for the rest off your life.

Most jewelers do a finance option same as cash. You can also stat a lay-a-way now.

I paid for the ring with cash. Just put a little bit away whenever I could manage it. Don't go overboard with it. You don't want to go into debt proposing. There'll be plenty of time for that when you start planning the wedding.

How true. I paid for my wifes. I am not saying that a ring HAS to be 2x monthly salary. I am just saying that is what I spent. I dont think it needs to be about the money. It should be about the love

This is true. First a ring, then a house, maybe a car or two, college funds, furniture, longeberger baskets, purses, shoes, etc, etc ,etc

I helped an old lady across the street and picked her pocket. Lucky for me she'd just cashed her pension check. Anita got a nice ring. She's happy, so all is good.

12months/0%

Pay as much as I could for 11 months, then sell some of my company stock to pay off the final month.

The whole set cost $500.00 in the Navy Exchange in Italy in 1981. Won the money playing poker 6 hours per day while at sea.

Re: How did you pay for the engagement ring?

There are a number of rings in marriage...

The Engagement ring
The Marriage ring
The Anniversary ring
The Suffering

All joking aside, it depends on your values and tradition. Many forego the ring and/or a fancy reception for a larger downpayment on a house, or furniture to fit in it. Far too many of us (Americans, that is) get into the habit of going into debt. For many, this is the opportunity to develop good habits and not living a life in hock to credit card companies.

I'm an incurable romantic, and totally agree that if this is what makes her happy, then it's what you ought to do. But don't rule out the possibility of investing that money (with her agreement, of course) into your first home, or some other worthy long-term mutual benefit, and buy a bigger ring in the future, when you're more financially stable, and can truly afford it with ease.

Here's a hint. If you can't figure out how to pay for it, it's probably too much.

Well said. When I got married we discussed our budget and looked at ONLY rings in that budget, and agreed that when out finances allowed we would upgrade. I would, as did my wife, think that saving up for a deposit on a house would have been a better idea.

Re: How did you pay for the engagement ring?

I don't think i saw anyone put anything about this. Make sure after you get the ring. Get some insurance on the ring it self. Take it from me it is well worth it. I just went threw she knocked it off the vanity and right down the sink. GONE. Nothing to do to get it back. Ins paid for most of it but make sure you talk to the insurance company about it. (She has the replacment ring and if I still ask her about it she crys)

All right i will get off the soap box
