How did you pay for the engagement ring?
i'm just out of college, working full-time and looking for a career job, and broke. wondering how everyone else managed to do it.
i could take a loan out, but that would just add to the debt I already have. =( |

 Spend what you can afford, and if that is not much, so be it. The size of ring is meaningless if the love behind it is not genuine...

Used up most of my savings for the engagement ring.... those things are DAMNED expensive.... you could buy a Kia for the price of some of the rings

Find a place that sells quality loose stones. You can pick out a quality certified stone and the setting that you want for it. You can usually save a little money to.

I got lucky with my girlfriend b/c I mentioned the idea of possibly ring shopping with her (even though i cant afford one right now) and she told me she already had a ring from her grandmother that she wanted to use, it just needed a different setting. My overall cost went from about $4000 to $1000. I would casually mention that you would need to know what kind of ring she wants now so you could surprise her in the future. If she already has one, bonus! If not, back to the old drawing board.....

Playing golf. Standing on the 4th tee box, I hear someone behind me shout "Fore", stupid me I turn to luck, and catch a line drive right in the kisser. Knocks out my two front teeth, first thought is, damn there goes the rest of this round. Second thought was I better get to the dentist. Long story short, I was able to save the teeth (going on 19 years), but the insurance settlement was for bridgework, and replacements. Used the money for my wife's ring, and a good chunk of a down payment on our first house.
Moral of the story, always duck and cover when you hear "Fore", otherwise you might end up married.  |

I dont agree with going into debt for a ring. The size of the ring is meaningless as opposed to the actual meaning. I bought my wifes ring out of money I picked up an extra job for.
2x monthly salary

If she wants to spend the rest of her life with you,the ring should'nt be a big issue.It was'nt a issue with my wife(she did get her ring after a while)it was about the bond.
If you want creative,my dad sold his harley and two pigs to buy my moms ring...(true)

I didn't go the diamond route. My wife had one of those on when i first met her and she gave it back because of me. I didn't want to repeat that so i went with an Emerald. I can tell you how much i didn't spend.
