next time you're ever in 3rd BCT HQ, check up on the wall of the past brigade commanders. there's a guy named "Col Grange". hard as nails looking. he just "retired" from civilian life. his son is the guy they interview on CNN all the time. he was a PVT in the rangers at normandy. one of 4 that are still alive that fought in WWII, korea and vietnam. the "best ranger" competition was named after him as well. retired as a 3 star. great guy. i worked with him for 15 years. was talking to him 15 minutes after 9-11 happened, and he's from NY. |

I'm to take the risk.... . I worked in the mid-80's at NSA, just before they started buildings at the agency. Used to be a singular tower and I worked on the 8th floor. Last time I was up that way, they've really built things up quite a bit.Was FANX2 also by the airport? We had some of our Navy folks working at FANX. Back then, i didn't have the Carolina Panthers to support, but grew up here in NC as a Redskin fan. When at the agency...our Navy office that was over by the barracks area, had been Redskin season ticket holders for years as part of their MWR program. Practically every home game I was able to either win the ticket lottery or had a friend that won the tickets and always gave them to me. A real coup, inasmuch as, Skins tickets were very hard to get during the Riggins-Gibbs-Monk era. Biggest thrill I ever had was taking my father, a lifelong Redskin fan, to a PLAYOFF game. Skins won...and my father was one happy and proud dad that day! NSA days were some of the best days I had in my career. Used to toss'em back and also played softball for a little pub in Laurel Mall called Mac's Place. Of course, we use to hit quite a few of the bars back then...TIMBUKTU, Club 602, the RaceTrack, amongst them. You're working in a pretty good place. |

We have a lot in common. I am born and bred NC. Graduated from high school at Eastern Wayne High in Goldsboro. Went to Chowan College in Murfreesboro before joining the CG in 83. I lived in Fayettville when my father was in the Air Force. We lived at Ft Bragg (there was not enough housing available at Pope back then). We lived there when Dr. McDonald killed his family. Lived about 1/2 mile up the road. I am in the EEOB building at NSC. Work as a contractor for the systems people. I worked yesterday for while and while coming out of the Sitroom yesterday morning I met Nancy Pelosi. I am not a Pelosi fan but she was very nice when I talked to her. I have been a lifelong skins fan. Like you said back in the day when you lived in NC you had to be a Skins fan or a Falcons fan since the Panthers were not around. I remember watching Sonny Jurgensen, Billy Kilmer, Chris Hanburger, etc with my father.

Tough 'Ombres!!!! My step-dad's father was with the 90th in WW2. He still has the silk map of France that they issued to him and that he used.

I'll look for Col Grange on the wall. Not surprising that he made 3 stars, a lot of former 187 CDRs seem to make it to much higher ranks. Not me though, I'm redeploying to Fort Livingroom. |
