Put Hardwood down.
Forget the carpet, hardwood will last longer, stay cleaner and looks a lot better. Put hardwood down.

Re: Any Carpet Experts Here?
Dang that sux Joe. If I never own another carpet as long as I live, hell that wouldn't even be long enough. We have two dogs, one giant and one puny. Thats just the begining, we also have a countless number of grand monsters that are out of control when visiting(no matter how much yelling and asswhoopin I do) who find new ways of trashing this poor old barn. We're in the process of figuring out flooring that will solve this problem and carpet is definately out for us. Bamboo and tile are what the entire house will have one of these days.
As for carpet, the best we've found are berbers.

I'm not an expert, but I think you get what you pay for when it comes to carpet. I think Berber like Frank said is a good choice.

Re: Any Carpet Experts Here?
Joe, if you can reconsider hardwood floor as an option, go for it.
there is so many beautiful harwood for a very good price. It can start from $2.50 to 5.00 s/f and up. the value, beauty and health issue can't compare to carpet. But if you really have to put carpet, like what everybody said, berber is the way to go Bro. good luck!

I hate carpet it is the most nasty thing on earth. You might want to consider bamboo. I have had both Oak and bamboo and love them both bamboo is very nice and can be had for around $1.99 a SF and around another $1.50 to install it. Lumber Liquidators even has a special of 12 months no onterest and no payments. They do not install so you will have to find someone else for that. Stay away from laminates and such either go with a true hardwood or a bamboo. You usually always get your money back out of a hardwood when you go to sell a house. With carpet it usually is the opposite you have to deduct for having the new owners for replacing it. http://www.lumberliquidators.com/cat...bCategoryId=85 |

Re: Any Carpet Experts Here?
The other questions are:
How long are you going to be in the house, what kind of traffic do you have, how many rugrats, or dogs, etc. If you are only going to stay there 4 or 5 years, put in cheap carpet, and give the next buyers an allowance. You could use that money in other ways to upgrade to what you want in the house, like ventilation (smoking room), better fridge, or stove, things like that. If staying a long time, get the heaviest carpet (face weight), thickest, and highest PAR value. The par value equates to the carpets wearability and longevity. Treatments these days are pretty darn good. I went with the latest stainmaster treatment in the heaviest frise possible, with the heaviest pad, (8 pound, I think) for my basement, this was for several reasons, including the fact that it is on a concrete slab (think warmth), in my home theater (sound absorption), and I wanted more comfortable tootsies without having to lay another subfloor on top of the concrete. I also went with a carpet direct guy from a home show rather than going to a big box store. The cost ended up being between 1/2 and 2/3 the price of a carpet store. I can try to dig up the vendor to see if he can give you a referral, if you want.
