Hygrometer location

I just bought a new humidor, i am setting up everything but have one doubt. The hygrometer i think the best place for it is to stick it on the lid. it comes with a little circular sticker y has one side with metal and the other seems like rubber. i think this is for sticking the hygrometer but the hygrometer has some holes on the back and this will be on them and I think this holes are for the sensor. SO if i stick it with this should it still work? or do i have to leave those holes totally unblocked?

Sticking it on the lid is fine, thats what I do, but as one of the small holes in the back is likely for adjustment, test and calibrate it first.

A salt test for you to ensure the hygrometer is working properly is a good investment of your time. While I am going the salt test overnight, I put a small tupper container in the humidor with just water to hydrate the humidor wood if it is new. Some people use water to wipe it down, I prefer to just use the container of water.

For the salt (NaCl) test, you need to make saturated salt solution. Dissolve salt in water until no more dissolves and there is undissolved salt left = saturated salt. You don't need much, I use a small tupper container that I fill with a half inch of salt and then pour water on until it fills the space in the salt. It will reach equilibrium quickly. Put the hydrometer in a larger tupper, along with the small tupper with ths saturated salt test and leave it overnight, plastic bags are fine too. You should leave it so you can see the reading on the hygrometer. Generally I just make note of the error and don't play around with adjusting it as you can screw up the hygrometer (I'm talking from personal experience here). The reading should be 75% in saturated salt, so if it reads 80, I know that it reads 5% more than the actual humidity...so I will look for 65 on the hygrometer (which actually means it is 70%). If you do want to adjust it, there should be a screw in the back and perhaps some instructions. I wouldn't just go turning screws unless you were pretty sure the one you may see is for calibration.

Any questions you can pm me.
