We had the MP's almost break up (we had to beg and plead and promise to be more quiet!) our last pig pickin there in Hammond Hills on Fort Bragg! My best friend lived over at 151 E Luzon and I lived at 9 Normandy, so we used to get together with the boys (we'd both invite our platoon sgts and platoons) all the time! Roll on down to the class six off of yadkin, pick up a keg of shiner and a couple of handles of turkey and we were good to go for the weekend! Ah the good old days!

Re: How do YOU like your Barbecue???

I don't know about that Barbecue Mutton stuff.... Reminds me too much of Marines and Sheep!

The Brunswick stew is a staple in many of the barbecue joints here in the Carolina's, as is COLE SLAW, hush puppies, and of course....baked beans, as previously mentioned!

For a quick down the road sandwich, you typically have barbecue put on a hamburger bun with cole slaw. So damn good, it makes you wanna smack your grandma!

In my Navy travels...I've had it North and South, East and West...I guess a lot of it depends on what you're brought up with. Hands down, Eastern NC's chopped barbecue with a "special blend" vinergar-based (with peppers) sauce is awesome! The codes for launching nuclear weapons are less guarded secrets than the "special blend" sauce that many cooks use for their sauce.

Aye Squid that Brunswick Stew is great. My mother-in-law is from Greensboro NC and she makes that for us from time to time. But being a Duck We take our BBQ with sauce not vinegar

I am more of a dry guy and use the sauce as a condiment.

Yep...great times that you're able to put into your memory bank!

The Class Six is still outside the Yadkin Road gate and gets a regular visit by me. Hard to pass it by when I'm gasing up the truck! JD seems to be the preferred liquor of choice at our pig pickins...but many Wild Turkey's have been laid to rest at some of the events. In fact...we've had many all-nighters cooking a pig and getting liquored up that when dwelling back on the event (once sober)...the all-night cooking party WAS the memorable part of the event!

It ALWAYS is my friend! The broads always come for the food the next day, which is great, but the all night cookouts were reserved for the johnsons, you know?!

Riverdawg....we ain't talking "Duck Sauce"! You living down in South Kakalaki ought to be able to find you some darn good barbecue joints. And, by the way....I don't think you'd find any red-blooded, southern sports team wearing them funky looking Oregon Duck godawfulugly uniforms!!!

Re: How do YOU like your Barbecue???

Having lived in Dallas 20 years I liked Texas barbecue. Never tried any NC barbecue but I'm sure I'd like it.

Re: How do YOU like your Barbecue???

Pork chops: salt, pepper, small brush of garlic paste and some onion powder
Steak: salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder
Chicken: tomato based sauce but NOT TOO SWEET, dump a shitload of onion powder into the sauce before I brush it on. Thickens the sauce and adds flavor.

Onion powder.

Re: How do YOU like your Barbecue???

This is pretty timely - the east-west barbecue feud goes political!
