Does anyone think that all the tree's being cut down, pollution pumped into the air and toxic crap dumped into the water are not causing any problems whatsoever? I am sorry but Al Gore may not be totally accurate, but at least give him some credit for pointing out what we are doing to our earth.

Think you're missing the point here. What is being discussed is not general environmental issues, but Global Warming.

And by your criteria, I give Gore absolutely no credit. Every modern leader of this country has recognized that toxic waste, felling trees (with no replenishing) and general pollution are "bad". Gore's point is that humans are the culprit of Global Warming and that is where the questions come in.

Off topic: While I agree we all could use a bit of moderation (please read my first post in this thread) this guy has gone way friggin overboard:

From the BBC
"In a 268-page report submitted to the United Nations, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) endorsed what many scientists have long argued - that human activities such as oil refining, power generation and car emissions are significant causes of global warming."

The vast majority of climate scientists agree that we are causing global warming. Abdussamatov's theory(About mars & solar warming) is junk science.

if global warming is caused by humans, then we should reduce the emissions that are linked to global warming. if it is proven that global warming is not caused by humans and their is nothing that we can do about it, we have reduced pollution, made our factories more efficeint and created wonderful new markets like the Chicago Climate Exchange. if we error on the side of caution we still come out ahead in the end.

Enough said to raise my suspicions.

Yeah, it's all good, unless we have a massive climate change that we haven't prepared for since we thought we were stopping it.

Please, listen.. No one here is arguing that conservation is bad (although it is funny when done to extremes). No one here is arguing that there is not a global temperature shift. It would be nice to remove the politics from this completely and get a real ****ing answer. Not a we're-all-gonna-die-unless-you-eat-roughage-and-wipe-your-ass-with-rocks and not a everything-is-fine-excuse-me-while-I-play-this-fiddle answer but a real dialog that leads us to real answers.

Alex,

I agree with that 100%. I am not convinced about Global warming, but while the furor rages over that the earth is being destroyed in so many other ways. Numerous species of fish are being decimated from the Oceans, Matt mentioned the wetlands, rainforests, etc etc.

I can't stand Gore, and I think he is a monumental hypocrite which has been pointed out recently. I think his concern for global warming pales in comparison to his concern to use this issue to keep himself in the national/worldwide spotlight. As much a hypocrite as I believe him to be, I think, as you seem to as well, that intuitively there is something to the global warming concerns that are raised. I have to grudgingly give Gore some credit if his GW crusade has some parallel benefit for global environmental issues as a whole. I think his motives are very dubious however.

Any oversight of GW issues by the UN just makes me cringe. Only thing worse than Gore's hypocracy is the UNs incompetence.

Cheers,

BillyBarue
