Student punished for spaghetti beliefs.

I did a few searches, and couldn't find any posts on this, but I thought a few of you would get a chuckle out of this. If anything, it might make icehog's butt itch.

For those who haven't heard of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, you can go here: http://www.venganza.org/

My personal views are that the kid pushed the bounds too far. The education system is meant to test the individual, not have the individual test the system.

part of his religion?? give me a break.... my thoughts are if you leave your home land to go somewhere else for whatever reason, you should follow the culture of the land you live in.. If you like it better in your homeland, well then GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM!!!!!

Sorry end /rant

Re: Student punished for spaghetti beliefs.

The school is in NC man, so I think he's from the US. The link may be misleading, and that's my fault, but I read it off that website.

This happened in the US, to a student who is, I'm quite sure (not positive), an American.

Perhaps he is a more aware HS student than most and is gently pushing back against the pc teachings in schools today?

there was a time when christians were viewed as looney. im not saying that pastafarians are being serious in their beliefs or not but who are you to judge them? there needs to be more tollerance and acceptance. just cuase their god and your god are a different being doesnt make them wrong. i personally find the idea of christ to be a little out there as i was raised jewish but i dont find christians to be rediculous. maybe it is a big joke but maybe it isnt. i cant say for sure but either way how is this kid dressing as a pirate hurting anyone? and it is really different than a student wearing a yarmulke a talles and teffilin to me those are regular religous items to wear but to other they might resemble a cape a beanie and rope around my head and left arm.

Re: Student punished for spaghetti beliefs.

Now everyone knows that my church of The Holy Boli is the only true religion that should be allowed. Do I hear tax exempt status for all my religous purchases?

I read the website to see alot of sarcasm. If the school does not have a designated dress code, then I don't see why he can't wear what he wants. When I was in school many moons ago we had many drama members that loved to wear capes and talk like pirates. The only thing it did was ensure they had trouble getting dates.

While I don't think they really intend this to be a religion. I think that in the end this is a social experiment for them. Just look at the publicity and diologue that this is creating. I think the guy is genius.

Re: Student punished for spaghetti beliefs.

I did not read this particular articale however I believe the flying spagetti mosters = religion thing was "created" as a farical arguement when some southern US schools decided that you could not teach evolution and only creationism. A unique individual individual came up with the flying spagetti monster and said it was as plausible and as verifiable as mainstream ideas in mainsstream christianity.

I don't believe there are any churchs or "dues" collected minus the selling of T-shirts and other merchandise. I believe the kid is just a little to smart for his own good and is thying to get some attention. I don't believe he should be punished any more then the punks, emos or goths. No dress code means you can dress like an a$$clown if you want to but it won't get you a date to the prom.

Funny, I just used one of their mascots to make a pirate symbol for a friend in photoshop. My friend wants to use it for his really fast sailboat and he'll hoist this image as he passes other sailboats.
