2005 NFL Draft

It's time to start thinking like Mel Kiper again (since the Bears missed the playoffs again).
Post what you think your team or any team for that matter should do in the draft. Who they should take, should they trade down, should they trade up, etc.

I'll start it off. I think the Bears should do 1 of two things. They should trade down from the #4 spot. The last time they did that they got an extra first round pick that turned out to be Grossman. If the Bears keep the fourth pick they have to look at WR. Either Michigan's Braylon Edwards or USC's Mike Williams. Other possibilities would be one of the big three backs or OL.

you want to get burned by a Michigan WR again? joking....

why a RB? thomas jones did pretty well when he had a QB worth a damn, and the OL was semi-healthy.
why the hell did they fire the O-coord after 1 year? that's insane. wasn't his fault he was stuck with a rookie QB and washed up never-was QB after the starter went down for the year...
that's cool, send him back to KC to be QB coach again, or maybe he can get another HC job in college, who knows.

i really had high hopes for the bears this year, and i think they'll be better very soon.
----------------

as for MY team?
*can we draft a new front office?
okay, since we can't, can they listen to this suggestion?
* every year, there are players throughout the NFL who are good, but just "disgruntled" and want to be traded. every year, those players go on to new teams at bargain draft pick prices and do very well.
putting that together with the piss poor drafting that the KC Chiefs have done since derrick thomas was drafted and the # of picks they should have.... TRADE THE FIRST 3 ROUNDS WORTH OF PICKS FOR VETERAN PLAYERS WHO ARE BETTER THAN WHAT WE HAVE!!

i mean it, i'm not being a smartass about this.
hey, if your team can't draft players the past DECADE that would be able to beat the Navy Midshipmen, then why not TRADE those picks for a proven veteran who wants to move to a new team?
serious. if you can't do squat with those picks, send 'em to someone who can, and take their trash and make it your treasure.

that's what KC needs to do... after they get rid of some D-linemen, backup quality LBs and bad CBs.

oh, and they need a WR and future QB (next year is t. greens last).

Re: 2005 NFL Draft

I believe Shea got fired becuase he praised Quinn so much, saying he was more than an adequate backup. We all know that's not true.
As for RB, I am a true Bears fan and the we are always looking for the next WP, which probably will never happen (see Curis Enis, Rashaan Salam). Sure Jones did a good job this year and A-Train looked like his old self for a while, but neither will ever be a "special" back. I'm not sure any of the big three backs in the draft will be either, but you never know.

While the OL is good, there are a couple franchise LT's that will go high in the draft. If Virginia's D'Brichashaw Ferguson forgoes his final year he will be a top 5 pick. And right behind him is FSU's Alex Barron. Quality LT's are hard to come by so it may be hard for the Bears to pass them up. They can always look for WR in the 2nd round. With that being said, though, I still hope they draft a top-notch WR.

Re: 2005 NFL Draft

The Broncos need some pass rushing D-lineman and they also need some offensive lineman.

With that in mind, they also could use a QB. How about Alex Smith from Utah?

Re: 2005 NFL Draft

The draft is about a month away now, so I'm going to resurect this thread.

The Bears have picked up Muhammed, for better or worse, so I think they may skip on Edwards or Williams with the 4th pick. The talk now is that they are looking to take Cedric Benson with the pick. Good ol' Bears, always looking for a RB. I still believe Johnson (LB from Texas) is the pick to go with. I would rather see the Bears have an excellent D and a sub-par O than a decent O and a good D.

Hopefully they wise up and pick Johnson or Edwards/Williams or trade down and pick up some more picks.

Who is your team and what would you like to see them do on draft day?

Re: 2005 NFL Draft

I hope Williams falls to 6, because with the losses the last 2 years of McCareins and now Mason, and with an as-yet unproven no. 2 in Ty Calico, we desperately need another playmaker. With Norm aboard, I think it's possible Williams really could blossom pretty quick into a special player. And not in the short-bus sense.

That said, talk around here has us trading down to 9 or 10, picking up another 2nd or 3rd rounder, in exchange, and hoping that the South Carolina WR (Troy Williamson?) is available. That would allow us to concentrate our lower picks on OL and CB.

Re: 2005 NFL Draft

Chiefs.

this may sound "sour-puss", but i really wish those dumbasses in the front office would
A) pony up the fuggin cash on some quality FAs (we've already lost out on a few CBs and another LB we need - but we've got another safety we don't need??)
B) trade away our 1st and 2nd round picks for disgruntled PROVEN veteran players. currently, patrick surtain of miami would be a KC Chief if i were running things. where else would you find a pro-bowl quality PROVEN CB with a 2nd round draft pick?? you can't, so send the F'in draft pick!!
C) if all it took as a 3rd round pick for the Pats to snare D. Starks from Arizona, why does KC have a 3rd round pick and Starks isn't in KC?? another snooze/lose move.
D) darren howard, the stud DE from the Saints, who went to???? K-STATE! they want a 2nd round pick for him. what does KC need?? A STUD DE WHO'S YOUNG!!

now, you're saying, "IHT, what about the draft?" F it!! have you looked at how poorly KC drafts in the 1st-3rd rounds since carl peterson has been the GM here??!!

if WE can't do squat with the pick, why not trade them for a PROVEN player that we NEED who can step in and IMMEDIATELY upgrade the team instead of taking shots in the dark on a rookie draft pick? sure, some teams seem to find the right guy at the right time, KC is not one of them.

what would you rather have?
1 - pro-bowl quality CB and DE
2 - two or three "possible" role players on your team in a year or two?

i'd take option 1 please!!!

trade the damn picks already, carl!! bring us a CB who can cover, and bring darren howard back to KS where we can get some form of pressure on the QB!!

i will say that i'm shocked to see KC actually sign a big named FA, the LB from Pitt, Bell. of course, we could've had someone with less of an injury history in Ed Hartwell (now a falcon).

what will the do with the draft? who knows. they need a future QB as this well be t. greens last year (and their 2 ten-time pro-bowl OL - roaf/waters). they also need a WR that can make an impact, unlike the crap they keep drafting in the 3rd-7th rounds the past decade.
imagine how good KCs offense would've been if they had a WR who could catch? don't get me started on the playoff loss to the colts, it was their O that lost that game, not the D.

Re: 2005 NFL Draft

I don't think the draft will make the Broncos real contenders. Denver needs help at so many positions to become a viable playoff team.

I would say the Broncos need offensive and defensive lineman along with a receiver.

Re: 2005 NFL Draft

The Falcons have had a really good off-season signing four great players for the defense including, Ike Reese form the Eagles, Ronnie Heard from San Fran, Rich Coady from the Rams, and Ed Hartwell from the Ravens!

Atlanta has the 27th pick. They need recievers!
