Confessions of a 44 year old college student
I don't know how many of you gorilla's are my age, working a full time job, married with children, and going to college at night, but it can be very trying.
I'm sitting here writing my final paper for my Organizational Communications/Conflict Management course and about fried. I get really pissed that I didn't finish school when I should have, but then again I had no motivation or parental guidance. The best I can offer now is to tell my kids to do it the right way - not like dad! The plus side is I will have my Bachelor of Arts in Business and Technology from Fairleigh Dickinson University next May. I guess it will offer me more opportunity in my field which is Information Technology - but who knows? I'll have 9 credits towards my Masters at that point and will probably continue this torture - but only time will tell.End of my mental health post and back to my paper - enjoy your night!

Now thats dedication.......I'm in grad school (25 yrs old).... a little late myself compared to the rest of my class........ It definitely can be a pain in the ass, but will pay off one way or the other.

I've gotta write a 5 page paper on a Psychological Disorder. I'm pretty much burned out when it comes to school.

It's very good to hear people going back and finishing their education. Makes up for all those people who mope about it rather than taking action.

Re: Confessions of a 44 year old college student
I'm a young buck... in my first year of college but can definitely relate. Just finished a 5 page Biology paper a bit ago on genetic disorders and now on to 2 lab reports for chemistry. Ahh the life of a college student. I guess the only difference is my weekends are probably a bit more fun than yours
haha. But I would guess spending time w/ the fam is just as good for you. |

Re: Confessions of a 44 year old college student
I'm 28 and in my first year of engineering school, after getting a degree in chemistry. I'm older than most, but hey, after the work I've done, I know how to balance. It's been a long, long time since I've had to pull an all nighter or panic because of lack of study time.

My problem though is that the classes actually go a bit slow for me because they have to pace it for all the ADHD kids.

Congratulations on hanging in there. I did graduate school part time in my '30's while on active duty and know what you are going through. It is worth it in the end.

Your a freeking stud man. I just went back to school after being a hippy for 10 years. I wish I would have gone outta high school like a real human, but the things I have been able to see and do have made up for it. I am taking 12 credits at night after working 45+ hours and man, I hear ya. I have never been this tired in my life, brain tired. Way to go man, hang in there!! Ill be rooting for ya!

Re: Confessions of a 44 year old college student
Keep it up, there are very few things in life that will give you as much personal satisfaction as finishing your degree.
My senior year of college was the best 10 years of my life.... ![]()

Re: Confessions of a 44 year old college student
Well, since I went full time for three years before being kicked out in 1983, that makes my senior year...let's see....carry the...hell, that's 24 years!!! I failed to mention that my oldest daughter is a sophmore in college - heading to Thomas Jefferson School of Nursing. Gotta graduate before her and have a higher GPA!!! ![]()

Re: Confessions of a 44 year old college student
Hey, bro, I (almost) know what you're talking about. I never went straight to college. Got a job out of High School and diddled around a couple of years then went for an Associates, then back to work... then back for my BBA when I was in my 30's, now I'm noodling over my MBA if I can find the right school.
Hang in there... and if you need help, a friend of mine is on the FDU Board Of Governors in case something "big-bad" goes down and you're treated unfairly.
