Re: What books are you reading?

Patton : A Genius for War, by Carlo D'Este. This book is one of the most extremely detailed biographies I have ever read. Almost a 1000 pages, it extensively covers George S. Patton Jr.'s life from his birth to his death.

D'Este gives special attention to the World War II period of Patton's life. It is interesting to read about the polititcs of the armed forces and how the politics effected many of the strategic, personnel and even tactical decisions reached by senior commanders.

If you can stand such detail and have the patience for such a long read, I would highly recommend this book.

Hey, I have read both of those books! What do you think of the Eldredge book? My men's group at church were very split on it. Some really liked it and others really hated it. I was in with those who liked it!

Re: What books are you reading?

I was reading Gravity´s Rainbow... but I think it was too much... I really liked The Crying lot of 49, which I think is one of the last centurys greatest book...

I was going to read Anarchy, State and Utopia but the english is to advanced. Have to get a translated version.

I think Ive read most of Bukowski and Fante that was translated but I could be wrong... I always enjoy reading them...

Some Dostojevskij and Dickens are also good choices. I have to read at least one of each this year. Last year I read The Idiot and The Tales of two Cities.

And of course read all books that have become a Stanley Kubrick movie. So far Ive read Barry Lyndon and A Clockwork Orange. I think the movie version of Barry Lyndon was much better than the book but with A Clockwork Orange it was as good as the book. I think Kubrick captured the whole idea of the book. The Shining (Stephen King), 2001 - A Space Odysse (Arthur C. Clarke) and Traumnovelle (Arthur Schnitzler) is on the top of the list so far...

Biometry

Its a statistics and probability for environmental subjects. Absolutely horrible stuff, but its the textbook for my class.

An HS US history Text. Might as well.

The Glorious Cause by Robt Middlekauff. Still in the opening chapters. Backgound to the Am Rev.

A collection of Guy de Maupassant short stories.

A collection of Tho. Jefferson's writings.

American Sea Writing: A Literary Anthology

Einstein's Dreams: it's been a few years -- fun read!

Then there's all that new course material I'll have to read...

Re: What books are you reading?

The Da Vinci Code. I've already read Angles and Demons a while back and when I first started this one we had the baby and I let a number of things go for awhile. Now it's time to start my interests back. Though, reading isn't one of my big interests. I thought Angles and Demons was a great book, so now I have to read the Da Vinci.

I like the way Dan Brown writes and how he keeps his chapters short urging you to go to the next even though you had planned to stop. So far I'm liking the book.
