Re: What books are you reading?
Currently reading "The First American Army" by Bruce Chadwick. The untold story of George Washington and the men behind America's first fight for freedom. I received it for a Christmas present and am just getting around to reading it.

Re: What books are you reading?
Re-reading Frank Herbert's original Dune book. I consider the Dune series to be on a par with Lord of the Rings and the Chronicles of Narnia.

Re: What books are you reading?
Recently read books include:
The Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman... An awesome book, based around the story of Anansi, the Spider God. Set in modern day London, modern Florida, and some other places. Involves Charlie, Anansi's son, and how his life radically changes when he meets his uber-cool brother, Spider. Lots of Terry Pretchett... the Discworld is one of the most irreverent fantasy series ever... Robert Rankin lots, kinda like the Discworld, only nothing like it at all, and featuring Elvis. The White Tortilla, by David (Dabeed!) P Diaz. This book was not what I expected... I was expecting a lecture, and what I received was an insight into how an attitude was born. While eschewing a typical textbook style, this is none the less, a textbook... although it seems to be designed to be read rather than taught from.... which is good, cos the unedumacted ones of us, like myself, can pick it up and teach ourselves something without feeling like we're really learning. Dabeed discusses his parents attitude to intergration into a new society, and how it meant learning his 'mothertongue' of Spanish (even though it isn't) at a later age, and how he, in his beliefs, feels people should act, behave and tolerate to integrate into society. Very interesting read. Cheers DocStogiefresh! The autobiographies of: Shawn Micheals, John Peel, Francois Pienaar and Robert Sabbag.

Re: What books are you reading?
Since I've been told to spend as little time sitting as possible, I've been spending what little TV time I would normally have reading in bed! I've read four books in the last week and a half, including "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", "The Black Dahlia", "Stiff: The Curious Life of Human Cadavers", and "Human: All Too Human". I feel smarter already!!! Who knew the brain was for readin'?

Re: What books are you reading?
"Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson, the same guy that wrote Isaac's Storm.
I love mysteries and this one is actually non-fiction. It is about the genius that built the 1893 Chicago World's Fair and this Hannibal Lecter type of mass murderer who stalked innocent young women drawn to Fair. The books won both the National Book Award and the Edgar Award. I'm about halfway through it and can see why it won both awards. Fascinating setting, plot and characters ... terrific writing ... and it really happened. I'm savoring this one like a good cigar. A good book, good basketball, good steaks and good cigars … ought to be a great weekend. Next up is "Hark" by Ed McBain. This guy can write dialogue like no one else. After that, I'm planning to read "Team of Rivals" about Lincoln's cabinet.

I enjoy reading anything on the civil war, especially books on Lincoln and the battle of Gettysburg. I also like reading books on baseball.

Re: What books are you reading?
Just bought "Game of Shadows". The one about Barry Bonds. Busted through the first 6 chapters last night. Man, this Victor Conte guy was a real self tought scumbag. Drug dealer and a want-to-be rockstar before starting to sell supplements. Good read so far. And Barry Bonds....always a "I will work half as hard and still be better than you" type of guy and he was not afraid to tell you.
