Thompson Cigar Company!!!!

I just received a letter from Thompson Cigar Company telling me that I'm now enrolled in their 250 club and that my regular shipment of cigars will be sent next week and continue to be shipped to me every 49 days?????


I ordered a sample pack of smokes a month or so ago, they called me last week asking if I received the shipment and if everything was okay. I told them yes I was satisfied and had no complaints. The guy on the phone told me he could give me an extra 10% off on future purchases. I said great!!

Well it turns out that I was baited and switched on this deal. They want to send me some LA PALOMA VIN RESERVES and keep sending them to me every 49 days???? This isn't what I signed up for!!!

I sent them a nice email stating that they are not to send me any cigars and that I want out of this club ASAP. Also that I am contacting my credit card company and telling them not to allow Thompson to charge anything to my account.

I would have thought that a company would want to keep their clients happy and not try and trick them this way.

Let this be a warning to all the other nice folks in this group.

Bait 'n Switch is actually their corporate slogan. One of the reasons I will never deal with them.

DonJefe has stated my feelings. I got stuck by them after answering one of the adds they had on an airplane mag.

Thompson's is one of the worst mail orders out there.

Try JR, Famous, Rocky's or Mr. Bundles, or better support your nearest cigar store.

Bout the only thing they are good for is once in a while a good deal on a sampler with case.

I don't mind the hard sell. I don't mind the bait and switch. What bugs me is that their cigars suck, and they have a bunch of names they use besides "Thompson". There are a handful of places I avoid, Thompson is at the top of the list.

I've never dealt with Thompsons.....come to think of it I've never bought any domestics via catalog or internet. I normally just go to the local one about 25 miles up the road. Yes here in Leavenworth that is local. Or if I'm on the road IHT and I usually check out the local tobacconist in the area.

I still keep an account with Thompson's. They occassionally have something I want, or get something in ahead of everyone else that makes it worthwhile to have an account there.

I have in the past returned stuff that was sent to me, like you said, through their club, when I didn't really want it. I've had strong words with them before and they have always been willing to please, so I keep the account open.

Yes....they let us surf the net and smoke Cubans.......ain't prision life great. LOL

But yes Leavenworth KS is the home of the "Hot House" as it is commonly refered to by the inmates. *How do I know....there is a book called,ready for this...."The Hot House." If you want an interesting read, pick it up.

*Just so no one is offended that was severe sarcasm. Sometimes it is hard to tell when you don't know the person typing the response. Except the part about the book. It really is a good read.

that is what this place is known for... as there are roughly SIX in the area!!

what coppertop fails to mention is that there is a local "shop" in town... but it's in the back of a run down gas station (not joking). we have to drive about 25 miles to a decent "cigar" store...

he also didn't mention that our BOSS (the one who gave me my first cigar) only buys from thompsons (and he only buys the same cigars over and over - pardron 3000 Ms and LGC Serie Rs). i've tried to hook him up with cheaper places, but he refuses to take my advice...

I don't really consider Doris's Smokehut a place to buy cigars. But yes it is "local" If you want to be price gouged into tomorrow.........

Another tidbit of history about Leavenworth. Why back when.....before Leavenworth had the Hot House and Lawrence had KU there was discussion on where to put both. Leavenworths city council, in their infinite wisdom, chose the prision. Why??? Because at the time it offered more jobs. OOPS.

I wish I had a local shop!!! We drive an hour and a half to get to a cigar shop. So when you hear me say "our local shop" it's not very local but the only ones around.

I usually buy all my singles from the shops but I do buy from JR's and CI a lot. I decided to buy this sampler from Thompsons. The cigars were fine and I thought everything was great until the "phone call" in which they totally hid the truth from me!!!

I might have joined the club if they would have been up front with me and offered good smokes, but I'll never do business with them again!!!
