Wireless net?
This may not be an issue with some of the city dwellers, but I am soon to start a new career & was in the hopes of having a nationwide wireless service on my new laptop.
I find that national service is not yet available in my area & that even if I could get it & find wi-fi hot spots in the area, they might charge me for the airtime if I try to piggyback on the signal. I would like to have mobile wireless where I can hook into the net in my car & send & recieve e-mails nationally. Isn't there something out there like sat service?

Re: Wireless net?
If there is anything available like that at this time, I imagine it is still quite expensive. I know Philadelphia is in the process of adding free or low cost wifi to the whole city.

Kansashat. Sounds like a cell based solution would work for you. Checked with sprint.. (Habal espanol) The card runs $ 149 on sale now. Plugs into your card slot. You then buy a data plan which is the monthly charge: 20 MB - $ 40 50 MB - $ 55 70 MB - $ 80 300 MB - $ 80 (SPECIAL) There are no connection fees and you could leave it on to update forum information for long periods of time with small bandwidth usage. You might want to check with PDS on the average size and frequency of a refresh but i gotta believe its small. I had a gizmo attachement for my last cell that plugged into the PC. It worked ok not like cable but probably ISDN (2x dial up) kind of performance. |

Re: Wireless net?
My buddy and I just finished development, testing and prototype release of a small cellular based ethernet adapter. You obtain a prepaid SIM card install it into our device, and away you go. Its pretty simple, when you run out of time (ie money) you fill it up anywhere you are. Pay as you go, no monthly fees.
