yo, i just did a search for these on the dreaded "C-bid". they have a few ending as soon as tomorrow (that i might bid on as well). and some with cigars that come with (in a 15 count humi).

http://www.cigarbid.com/auction/lot.cfm?lotID=232139 <-- for $1 right now)
http://www.cigarbid.com/auction/lot.cfm?lotID=232140
http://www.cigarbid.com/auction/lot.cfm?lotID=232182

i don't know how much they cost at other retailers, but i feel you could snag a deal on C-bid for one cheaper.

Re: Thoughts on the otterbox

I have a travel humidor similar to the otterbox and I have a question for all of you. I travel on business a good bit and I wanted something sturdy to carry a week or two worth of smokes. I bought this travel humidor from my local shop since they didn't sell the otterbox. I was short on time when I was looking, so I didn't have the option of mail order. My question is this...

Why after traveling on a plane (yes, the cigars were on board with me, not in my luggage) was it difficult to get the box open? I virtually had to pry the box open. Thoughts? Solutions?

There is probably no pressure release valve. Pellican cases I know have the release valve. Which leads me to a question, does anyone know where to get some foam trays for a pellican case? Thanks,
J.

Re: Thoughts on the otterbox

mayor is right, the air pressure.

otterboxes have a release valve on the front of them.

can't help with replacement foam, but i'm sure you could go to a hobby store (or some shop that women go to for crafts) and find some, then just cut it to fit your humidor (would be hard to cut pre-made notches though).

Yeah, what happens is the plane is under less pressure than the normal ground atmosphere. If it is stowed in your checked baggage it is worse as the pressure there is much lower than in the cabin. The seal allows some of the pressure inside (which was closed at normal, i.e., 1 ATM, pressure) to be released. When you arrive back on the ground a vacuum is created as inside may be equilibrated at 0.6 ATM and outside is 1 ATM (unless you're in Cusco Peru of course). It will slowly disippate, but if you try to get in your door soon after arrival you will find it hard to open. Like IHT says, some of the travel otters have a release valve which can be opened to equalize pressure and allow easy opening. If the seals were truly perfect this slight problem would not happen.

Re: Thoughts on the otterbox

I've got a 15 count otterbox for short trips and a 30 count for long trips and herf's. Got both of mine for a steal at cbid and can't live without them. I took an empty aluminum cigar tube, punched small holes all over it, filled it full of 65% beads and BAM, the perfect humidification.
