In what capacity?

I have done business with AIG for years, but I am on the brokerage side.

Re: Does/has anyone worked for AIG?

Have you ever sold insurance before? From what I remember, in the beginning it's a lot of making a list of everyone you know and contacting them to sell insurance. If you're ok with that, then you're in business. After that, I think it alot of "walk and talk", which is going out and meeting people and trying to sell them insurance. That is unless you are provided with leads, which could be good or bad. Insurance is tough unless you are extremely committed for many years, then it becomes easy sailing. Or easier atleast. Don't take my word for it, but I think this is what you'll be doing for a little while.

they said that half of the clients will be previous clients and half I'll have to bring in on my own. I'm not sure this is for me or not, but I may as well go on the interview.

I am not familiar with the insurance products AIG sells directly. I am assuming this would be personal insurance - auto, homeowners, life. We use AIG mostly for large contractors and the types of risks no one else will insure. I believe they are the largest insurance company in the world so there may be the potential for other opportunities within the company.

That being said, insurance sales can be a tough business, but also be very rewarding financially.

Good luck!

After seeing how you roll with the vintage port and Monte "A"s, it must be.

Re: Does/has anyone worked for AIG?

You also have to be ready to ride the waves. Right now in my area we are in a soft market who knows how long that will last. It is a lot of working contacts and people you know. When I started I hooked up with a couple of car dealers it's a lot of work, but every once and a while it works out great. Oh and get into the life and financial products selling them will get you further than P&C. Companies love life agents.

BP22 I have never worked with AIG we always used Progressive for that type of deal.

We only use them for general liability, work comp and international coverage and these are typically on large accounts.
