Today's surgery went well. She is very tired and prety well doped up, but the hip replacement was a success.

For those who had seen the original thread, the information has changed quite a bit.

Her first doctor diagnosed her pain as polymyalgia (sp?) and began treatment accordingly (which included some strong NSAIDS that she did not react well to). This was late this summer. She didnt see him much, because he spent most of the time in North Carolina painting. Yeah...just guess my initial reaction to that. He insisted the treatment would take on eventually, but it could take a couple months...so instructions and prescriptions were given over the phone.


Finally, after being fed up with his lack of interest in her and his attitude, she went to a differenct doctor. This was a couple days before my birthday...Jan 17. He took x-rays and immediately saw that there was no polymyalgia, but she had bone cancer pretty bad. She has been in incredible pain for quite a while and had been unable to walk since about Jan 15. Left hip was completely destroyed, and right one wasnt looking too good.

Today she had the left hip replaced. Right now they are shooting for quality of life, and tomorrow morning, according to the doctors, she will be walking. So hopefully we can take a little walk together as soon as they let me in to the hospital. Early next week, she will be going in for another procedure to "fortify" the right hip.

Then they plan on beginning chemo.

Despite all of this, she remains in good spirits. Before surgery this morning she asked the surgeon if the new hips could be a size smaller.

Shes a strong woman who has dealt with bigger pains in the ass than this (me).

Now, the question is, how many robustos will it take to burn this guys eyes out? Ane believe me....I am far from one who believes in malpractice, etc...but from what I have gathered, this guy didnt make a mistake, but was seriously negligent.

Chances are, it will result in that. My sister and I talked it over tonight, and we feel that the subject alone is a little too much right now for my dad. As tough as he has always been, seeing my mom like this has really taken a toll on him. He stays strong for her, but its tough on him...especially being alone in the house for the first time in his life.

Hopefully, by the time my mom is good to go, she will have a nice new house....probably a ranch because stairs will be tough, Im thinking somewhere around 1,000,000 square feet, some land to keep my dad busy, and a nice "doctor" to clean the toilets.

We'll see though. The folks have always been very hard working, anti-lawsuit, and doctor knows best. But even as stubborn and anti-suit as I am, this #$%#$'er deserves to fry. A lot of things are up in the air right now.

Its interesting that they did hip replacement. That she was strong enough for surgery and that the prognosis was such that hip replacement was done. That seems to be a good sign. Hope things work out for the best. Keep on top of the symptoms and treatments and ask questions of your doctors. Praying for the best outcome.

You are a better man than me. I would not be taking it so well. I dont know exactly how I would handle the "doctor," but I know that it would get very ugly. You are a good man, and it sounds like your mother is a strong woman. I am still praying for you guys. Please keep us posted.

He is still in North Carolina and I have never met him...so I cannot claim that my "goodness" is of my own self control...but I am trying.

It's none of my damn business, but some free advice from someone who's been there/done that.

When you think the timing's right, consult your legal professional of choice. Give them all the relevant information, then LEAVE IT ALONE AND LET THEM DEAL WITH IT.

Spend your energy on supporting your family. It's a little too hard to divide your emotions between the two issues. It'll be easier on you and better for them if you just let the legal beagles do their thing while you help the fam.

Just my two cents.

man, i missed the first topic on this totally. i didn't know. sorry to hear about all the problems she's having and the dumbass dr. hopefully the chemo will slow everything down and do it's work.
