Alot of deviates around here, heh.

I've had the surgery too, about 5 years ago because I was unable to breathe out of the one side. The goddamn doctor didn't open it up the nasal passage enough. So, now if I want to get my breathing normal again, I have to go back to get the same passage opened further.

Just make sure to tell the doc not to do the minimal amount of work and hope it fixes the problem.

Re: Who has had there deviated septum fixed

I put the surgery off for over 30 years. Deviated septum thanks to a busted nose a long time ago. Over the years one of my sinus passages just about completed closed up. I would get continual sinus migraines throughout the year, especiall with changes in the weather and barometer.

Had the surgery done about 4 years ago and have never been better. No packing was used, the doc wanted all the crap to drain out. He re-opened the closed passage way. I no longer get sinus headaches and breath much better. I never was a snorer, but the migraines increased to about 10-15 per year. That's when I said enough is enough. I should have bought stock in sinus excedrin.

Glad I finally did it and would recommend it. Worst part besides all the crap draining out (did it on a Thursday and was back to work on Monday) was when they took the spints out. Doc said it would feel like he was pulling my brain out through my nose, and he was right. But once they were out I felt great. I didn't even get any bruising.

I guess it is time to see my ent again this fall. I don't want to miss out on smoking this summer.

How much of a pain in the rear is the surgery and recovery? (Carlos....I'm pointing at you). I've had a microdiscectomy and laminectomy and was dancing with the nurse in the recovery room. Is this better or worse?

I'd really like to get it done this fall/winter, but I just don't have the time to be off work for a few days.

Re: Who has had there deviated septum fixed

I have a severely deviated septum. I snore like a fiend, and people that don't know me think I have a cold because I talk like I'm a little stuffed up. I also have sleep apnea pretty bad. I either really need to have the surgery or just start doing a boat load of coke for a couple years to burn the ol' nares right out. I figure I could also stand to loose a few pounds as well so the coke seems like the perfect fix.

Pain wise the disectomy was worse, but the nose was more messy. It really isn't that big of a deal. Worst that can happen is that you might get a black eye.

Wow! Maybe that's why I always get sinus infections. I'd been thinking about getting that fixed this winter because of the breathing benefit of using both nostrils. Good thread.
