Stepson graduating Basic Training

Bright and early in the morning! Luckily he went to basic an hour from home, just wish he had been stationed that close. I'm very proud of him, but with a 92% chance his unit will go to Iraq I'm also very worried. Just wanted to share my good and not so good news.

Re: Stepson graduating Basic Training

It seems almost like just a few short ... 15 years ago, I was graduating Basic myself. It was a great experience in my life and only got better during the years I served. It is something to be proud of!

We can only hope he is one of the lucky few who will not be sent to that GOD forsaken land. If he does happen to journey in that direction; know that he is on our hearts and in our prayers!! GOD SPEED to our fighting men and women!!!

Re: Stepson graduating Basic Training

i remember my graduation day parade at ft. jackson, SC. (sep 4th, '90)
that was a fun 2 months, wasn't nearly as hard as it should have been, or as hard as i wanted it to be. living conditions sucked where i was at (old WWII barracks) while others had A/C and hot water.... ah well.

best army in the world, sometimes things work a certain way for a reason... maybe he'll never go to Iraq? depends on what unit he gets sent to and what his MOS (job) is.

Armored division, so his chances are unfortunately good.

Don't recall, will definitely know tomorrow. He will be stationed at Ft. Lewis if that tells you anything.

Don't really remember the Armor guys out there, but I spent my last 2 yrs at Ft. Lewis. Great place to visit. Some of the most beautiful scenry in the country out there. Winters suck though.

Hopefully he gets to stay there instead of getting shipped out!

Re: Stepson graduating Basic Training

it's either 1st BDE, 25th Inf (stryker brigade), or 3rd BDE, 2 ID (also a stryker brigade).

coppertop and I just worked with one of the stryker brigades up in Alaska (172nd).

you can go HERE to check out some of the other stuff on Ft. Lewis.

my sister lives a few miles off post, in Tacoma.

Congratulations to your Stepson. It is a honor to serve this country IMHO and I personally want to thank him if you could do that for me. Our hopes and prayers are with you, your family and all the men and women serving so that we can sleep sound at night.

Regards,

Doug

Kudos to your stepson! Something to be proud of!

Wow... quite a few guys here graduated 15 years ago... 20 Apr 90, 1st btn/A co, 1036, Parris Island, South Carolina. Best day of my life.

Thank your stepson for all of us. We're honored he chose to serve.

Re: Stepson graduating Basic Training

Congratulations to your stepson DJ - He will be in my thoughts with the rest of our servicemen at home and abroad. Hopefully if he does wind up in the heat, he will have a tour free of incident and remain safe.

Wow. I just realized my graduation was 18 years ago. The people graduating basic now were born when I got out - Feb 13, 1987. The years seem to have been flying past while I wasn't looking.

(Mine was USN in Orlando Florida. If IHT thinks his was too easy, he should have joined the Navy - its hard to call it boot camp. moccasin camp maybe - nothing rough at all except gettting used to no sleep.)

The ceremony was wonderful! Very patriotic and I'll admit to crying more than once. Thanks to everyone for your kind words.
