Re: How many BOTLs smoke or used to smoke cigs?

I smoked cigs off and on for 20 yrs. Still love the aroma of the turkish blend. Moved over to premium sticks 3 yrs ago.(At my Dr's insistance that I stick around a little longer.) As I am not an inhailer either, He now gives me pretty good odds of being here another 20 or 30 . Btw I cant get the leaf off my mind...I love Her

Frank and I both quit at the same time.. all it takes for me to quit is someone else. I'm too competitive, as long as they never smoke I won't either. As long as Frank doesn't light up, you'll never see me smoke a cigarette. Frank did start wheezing pretty bad!! Scared the crap out of me and that's what started our kicking the habit.

Re: How many BOTLs smoke or used to smoke cigs?

Basically smoked cigarettes for 35 years with brief interludes of several months on several occasions of not smoking. Liked cigarettes and then one morning a year ago had smoked my second cigarette of the day and when I finished it I couldnt breath... could breath in but out wasnt workin' so well. Well I'm a healthcare professional and that folks is emphysema in a nutshell. Told my wife I have to quit cigarettes. Haven't smoked another one since that day. Used the patches from 21 mg down to 7 mg as recommended. Those and my cigars and I kicked. Now I smoke cigars exclusively and am breathing a whole lot better. Better late than never. Frank B

Re: How many BOTLs smoke or used to smoke cigs?

I smoked cigarettes since I was 12. Use to pay 40c a pack when I was a kid what are they now? Funny thing was I always hated the smell of the burning paper. I quit for a short while a couple of times but finally quit forever ten years ago. The coughing shortness of breath and that nasty smell did it, and one day I just went cold turkey. As long as I remember that I'll always stay away from those things. Now I smoke cigars guilt and wheeze free.

Re: How many BOTLs smoke or used to smoke cigs?

I used to smoke cigarettes, and still kind of do.. every now and then i will "bum" one off of a friend.. I guess i may smoke 1/2 a pack a month.. But they are kind of gross, especially after smoking a good cigar.. The cigar reminds me of how nasty the cigarette is!

Re: How many BOTLs smoke or used to smoke cigs?

Been smoking cigs for way to long. I lit up my first when I was in 3rd or 4th grade. (Both my parents smoked and both worked so I had access and time.) Back then everyone smoked. But really started in high school. Quit once for about 6 months. I'm looking to take another shot at it. I love cigars but want to ditch the cigs.

I smoked cigs for 6 years and I kept getting URI's, then one day I quit cold turkey. I tried a cigar once in awhile, now here recently I have been really getting into the hobby and truly enjoying myself.

Re: How many BOTLs smoke or used to smoke cigs?

I smoked a pack and a half to two and a half packs of cigarettes a day for a year and a half. I somehow came to my better senses and quit cold turkey several months before turning 18 (go figure, I never legally bought a pack of cigarettes for myself). I had smoked a few cigars here and there and about 6 months ago when I turned 18 I started smoking them pretty regularly. I usually puff 1 a day on average now and also have picked up smoking a pipe (I proabably smoke a bowl of baccy a day as well on the average).

When I smoked cigarettes I really enjoyed them but I my lungs were clearly not built for it. I was always short of breath or hacking something up whenever I tried to be active. The first 2-3 weeks of quitting were hell, now the only time I can think of having cravings is when I'm sitting in bumper to bumper traffic and see someone else enjoying one.

Actually my addiction to nicotine is pretty much nil now. I have no problem (and have on a semi-regular basis) going a few days without any tobacco. If you had tried to get me to go a few days without a cigarette when I smoked em' I might have last about two and a half hours.

I've come from a long line on both sides of my family of people who smoked religiously. If there is any perponderance that perhaps the enjoyment of tobacco is genetic, I might make a great case study. From the first time I smoked a cigarette it was second nature to me, hell I started decimating pouches of Bali Shag almost immediately after I turned 16. Thankfully, the smokers in my family wern't exclusive to cigarettes. Everyone of my grandfathers and great grandfathers smoked a pipe or cigars or both!

Re: How many BOTLs smoke or used to smoke cigs?

I smoked a pack to a pack and a half a day from 18 to 26. Quit for 8 years. Realized that I like 4 or 5 a day and the rest was nervous habit. Started up again for a few months then quit again for a year then finally quit forever 17 years ago. Some time after that I started occasionally picking up a Dutch Masters five pack or some other piece of crap and eventually one of my co workers explained to me what the warning label on the side of the package meant. ( tobacco and other non- tobacco ingredients). In a local cigar store I found an amazing deal on a closeout real cigar ($0.35 each) and gradually developed a taste for the good stuff. Life is good and I have more breathing ability at 52 than I did at 26.

Re: How many BOTLs smoke or used to smoke cigs?

Currently struggling to quite a 20+ year 20+ a day habit.
Do you get more out of cigars after quiting?
I have come to the point where I resent myself every time that I light up a cigarette.
