He took five independent steps to ensure..... Geez. I agree with you. He failed to look see to see if there were cheese on it. I don't care for cheese burgers but have experienced the same thing at every burger joint from time to time. If cheese = death, a reasonable person would examine everything he ate that he didn't prepare himself. He and his mom are idiots. Too bad he didn't die. He might have won the Darwin Awards for 2007.

McDonald's barely manages to get my order right when I order by number without any special instructions. Why in the heck would you put your life in the hands of a kid who probably just got high out by the dumpster.

This really looks like a set-up to me, there were just so many "precautions" they took - except for the obvious one - Look under the damn bun!

If the cheese was ground up in the patty, or injected inside the bun - then they have cause, but just sitting there on top qualifies as buyer beware.
