Unhappy Sad Nite, Our Dog Died...

While I was@the grocery store last nite I got a phone call from my neighbor who was taking care of the dog for me while Im out of town (fl). From the way he started the convo I knew something was wrong. Long story short (cause im tearing up just typing this) he told me he opened the back door looking for my big girl to run out like she do. He noticed her laying near the rear door lifeless of course im very upset about this but the hard part is me telling my lil girl. That dog was her best friend (she named her after her bestfriend that moved away and she cried) Man it hurt me thinking about telling her the bad news.
Well I made it back to the resort, put the food up and called her into my room. As soon as I told her she broke down with her head in her hands and let it out, Dammmm I hated to tell her that but im glad she didnt come home and see it. All the other girls hugged and kissed her and tried to make her feel better. My neice cried as well. Man what a way to start a vacation. But like anything else it's not the end of the world, as cold as that may sound that's what I told her. I asked her if she wanted another1 but she said no. I guess for now no dog. Im sure I'll be in the market pretty soon looking for a male bullmastiff so if any1knows of a good place let me know.
As of now she's doing better the kids are keeping her busy and shes quite the understanding lil girl(takes after her father)
I'll miss the nites in the back yard chllin smoking a cigar drink a nip or2 while my big girl sits next2me smelling my smoke but oh well like goes on.
Thxs for listening to me and yall have a good weekend.
3cheers for my big girl

Re: Sad Nite, Our Dog Died...

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor.

Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…

truly unfortunate bro, and a tough experience.

it's one of those unfortunate rites of passage that teach young ones.

Re: Sad Nite, Our Dog Died...

I'm very much saddened to hear this, my condolences and sympathy for your loss. I was going to post the Rainbow Bridge poem above, but someone else has done so. News such as this as well as that poem always bring a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes. They are with us for such a short time, all we can do is make it the best it can be while they are here...

Re: Sad Nite, Our Dog Died...

Booker,
I am very sorry to hear about your dog. Sounds like you handled it beautifully with your daughter. And you've been blessed with this quality time (vacation) to spend together with your family.

Best Regards,
Kevin

Oh wow. I sure hate to hear it both for you and your family. Hopefully the right time to introduce a puppy to the family will be soon and you will find just the right Mastiff to fit.
