Thanks for all the kind words and support. Overall, it is a big inconvience, mainly. I have a real job, and between the extra time this will require, the expense of course, and the loss of income from not being able to rent it for some time to come, all kind of adds up to a big pile of .

When I went to the property to inspect the damage, I fired up a Hemingway Signature. Turned out to be a great smoke, while I calmly wrote up a list of missing tools, and damage for the Ins. co. The cigar had a definite calming influence at the time, which I very much needed.

Almost an every week thing down here. New/under construction houses getting stripped of all wiring and anything else of value. Sorry to hear this bro, and hopefully they can catch the culprits.

It was like this in the early 70's, they would rip the downspouts off of your home while you slept!
This is happening alot around Houston. Including stealing copper coils from AC units at churches and schools. If fact, my father's bronse headstone vase was stolen. There is a special place in hell for people who steal from graveyards and churches.

Re: They stole my central air and furnace units

its sad to hear this happened to you, pathetic for this scum.

In detroit, these people were cutting down transformers off the polls as well as stealing sewer grates from the streets.

fyi - copper is at ~3.50 a Lb

I had probably 2-300 lbs of old copper pipe and radiators stolen from behind my garage last summer, I was furious but it was probably my own fault.

Sorry to hear about your loss.
That totally sucks and is very common on newer homes, yet to be occupied.
Insurance Claims.............25 yrs of it under my belt.
Should help but................

There is this deductible thing.
Then, there is this age thing.
Those units have an average life expectancy as tires do. So.....they are depreciated accordingly, or better known in the industry as "betterment", which means a new one would put you in a better position than the old one was.
Do you know if you have Replacement Cost Coverage? If you do, you should only expect to pay your deductible.
At minimum, no getting away from the deductible.

That blows. Its been happening around here like crazy too. Several area heavy highway contractors have had new signal wire ripped out from conduit they just put in the ground. Several hundred feet at $10/foot (scrap price!!!) for the big stuff.

Re: They stole my central air and furnace units

Is there no end to the long line of human debris? Nothing worse than a thief unless it would be a thief that you've given a job to and then he stole from you.

Copper and all other metal prices have gone wild. I used to trade copper futures back when the price was around $ .45-.65/lb. I would have never believed it would go over $3.50/lb.

Speaking of copper, the local news had a spot awhile back about a rancher in South Dakota that was "mining" copper. Boeing Aircraft, years ago, had buried miles of heavy copper cable on his ranch. The rancher was hooking a tractor to the cable and pulling it out of the ground. He'd recovered $10,000 worth of copper at the time the news spot was done. I'll bet that's where the name "Jolly Rancher" came from.

Sucks man, I hope somehow they catch the bastids.

Don't metal recycling companies deserve some of the blame for this kind of thing too? They have to know that alot of this stuff is stolen.
