The railway museum I volunteer at had a couple of diesel locomotive radiators (just back from being overhauled) and a big reel of signal cable stolen a month or two back. Ironically signal cable is something like 60-70% rubber insulation, so the bahstids didn't get nearly as much as they thought.
Copper (actually all nonferrous metals) has been hot for ages, and I agree the scrap dealers are partly to blame. Too often, it seems, they'll take anything that walks in, no questions asked. ![]()
