Hey

Hey guys Im pretty new to the site so I thought I would throw up a post on the pipe forum. I am 20 and currently a student at Florida State University. I have been smoking a pipe for about a year. I smoke out of three pipes. Little 20 to 30 dollar ones because thats what my college budget allows. BUT I enjoy it immensely! And am looking for new blends to try. Lately I have enjoyed smoking a blend called half and half. I really find it to be a very cool smoke and full of favor and aromma. Just wanted to see what everybody thought about this tobacco, and see what everybody else likes to smoke as a"go to" blend.

Re: Hey

Welcome to the boards.

I don't know about 'half and half', but my typical go to blends are Balkan (i.e. Balkan Supreme, Bill Baily's Balkan Blend, Balkan Sasieni etc.)

Re: Hey

Hey, buddy. Welcome to the jungle. I don't think I have a 'go to' tobacco just yet. I just seem to have different types of tobacco and different types of pipes. Which ever pipe is due to be smoked, that's the type of tobacco I reach for. Although I should add that I love any blend which has latakia in it.

Re: Hey

Welcome!

I can't really chime in on the half and half, but as far as my own "go to" is concerned it has to be Penzance. I just can't get enough.

Re: Hey

Well, if you like Half & Half, you might want to try Carter Hall next. Carter Hall is another old time drugstore burley. Others to consider are Sir Walter Raleigh and Walnut. All are relatively inexpensive. Also, get yourself a couple cobs. They are easy on the budget and great smoking pipes.

Re: Hey

Welcome. For me to fully appreciate pipe smoking I had to get away from what people refer to as grocery store/drug store tobaccos. You should get online and order a tin of some good stuff. You're not smoking aromatics, so maybe a VA blend or a Cavendish would be a good place to begin. These may seem a bit expensive by comparison but they burn much longer and are easier to manage IMO. If you look in our section TONIGHTS SMOKES or even First Smoke of the Day you'll see a whole bunch of tobaccos that get smoked very regularly. Listen to the guys with the most experience 'cause they have the best info to give you and search through previous posts and threads for additional info.

Also you can check out Vegas Smokes.com. They have a simple rundown of almost everything you need to know as a beginning pipe smoker on the bottom of their homepage.

Oh, and watch out for BigT.......... just don't know about that guy.......

Re: Hey

I agree with Mad Hatter. Lots of good info and ideas on this board. Another affordable option would be to go to a B&M (hopefully you have one in your area) and sample a couple of their bulk blends. Most places will allow you try some out. If your set on the drugstore stuff, give Prince Albert a shot.

Re: Hey

I am pretty new to pipe smoking also,,I ordered some tins that were recommended from people on this board and enjoyed them ,,then I went to a tobacco store in the Twin Cities and tried some bulk tobacco called Black and Gold and found it to be very good ,,mild and full of flavor..So my suggestion would be to go to a B&M and try some samples of their bulk tobacco ..

I would steer clear of this blend. I find it to be horse. It cost 17 bucks for a tub of it, they don't have small packs at all to even try it. Prince Albert is a nice cool smoke, though I didn't find it to have much flavor myself, but you might. PA is sold in little pouches for like $2.37-$3.00 very cheap for budget smoking. if you like it, buy a tub of it. (im still a noob myself )
