Peter PAD in Dublin

Just return from Dublin on wednesday night, as promised I include a few photo's of my Pipe adventures. It is almost impossible, these days, for me to be back in Dublin without popping into Peterson's. Already I have far too many pipes, but just couldn't resist a wee purchase. A red silver spigot 120 Dublin shape, with flat lip for....€75, normal price €150 in the shop, but because it has a dent on the top and a bit of black paint splashed on it...half price.

Now you can do the math here, on smokingpipes.com the same pipe is only $150, which means it is generally cheaper to buy a pete online in the states than it is to buy one in their own shop in Dublin! However. It is not cheaper for me here in Holland, and Irish Harp pipe will cost me €135 here, and €75 there! All said and done I'm happy with my purchase, albeit heavilly varnished and a wee bit damaged and off color.

The bad news is Pete's are not producing as many seconds as they where, quality was getting way out of control so they have roped this in, a few dozen seconds this year compared to a few hundred last year. That's what was indicated in the shop anyway. Enjoy. DitD

Great adventure, really appreciate you taking the time to share it with us. The final photo in your set really speaks to me.

Seeing the photos from inside the shop was very inspiring

If I remember correctly you posted a nice set of photos showing your smoking space back home in Amsterdam with the view from your home, thanks for that as well.

It has been a year since I was in Amsterdam and I would not mind visiting again given the oportunity.

Dub! You look so damned............ Irish! Hey, I read once that if you put a bead of water in a ding and then heat a needle with a lighter until its really hot, then stick it in the drop of water, it'll pull the ding out. Dunno if its true. Came from the info section for pipes on VegasSmokes. Glad you got to see home brother!

I was just in the Peterson's in Dublin 3 weeks ago while visiting Ireland. Wish I knew more about pipes, it would have been great to have made an educated purchase there. Very cool store though!

Thanks for the tip, I've heard that one, but to be honest, I am more concerned with how this will smoke, so far not too hot for a varnished pipe. I like Pete's vulcanite flat lips too, very comfy to clench.

By the way, I think it's the tweed cap which makes me look so Irish. But it's Harris Tweed (Scottish) made by Stetson (USA), go figure!
