Passed on the Beacon, but picked up 2 tins of the Orient 996. That stuff looks awesome!

Re: PCCA Beacon

I almost pulled the trigger on a few tins of this several times, but decided to save the $$ and get a few more tins of the CS blend to cellar when it's released. They say the Beacon compares to the older Copes Escudo which did entice me a bit though.

nothing like some advertising to make a sale, huh?
um... if it tastes anything like Copes Escudo, then i'm going to stop my quest in acquiring Copes Escudo and stock up on McClellands bulk 2015 and just put a blindfold on.
it tastes nothing like current production Escudo either. it's not bad, you know yu're smoking a mcclelland product with a lot of VAs (ketcup smell, tangy flavor), but... uh... i don't even know if i'd rank it in my top 5 Va/Pers as of now.
for the price, it aint bad. beats payin $25-30/tin for Escudo from the late 90s, but not the taste.

Thanks for the info. The whole "compare to Copes" and the fact it was a VaPer were the two main draws for me to buy it. I haven't found a VaPer yet that really gives the CURRENT production Escudo a run for its money, for my tastes anyway.

Re: PCCA Beacon

i agree, i think the new beacon blend is incredibly weak as compared with the old blend i had 7-8 yrs ago. as a matter of fact, with the exception of the new jubilee i haven't tried a new pcca blend period that is as good as the old blends were. just my tastes i guess. that said it is extremely hard to capture an old blend because tobacco is an inconsistent thing.
